  1. Was great to meet Chard - and to watch a great display of shooting - one of our squad leant to me and said "he's like a machine"

I scored a 63 - nothing to shout about, but I'm happy with the score - and had a fantastic day. Possibly a few too many loopers, and definitely a few too many bloody flies - but a lovely venue and good fun day out.

  2. Didn't have lessons there - but did a 'birthday' event when I was starting out shooting - where a bunch of us had a trip there, and about 40 birds each - Robert and Rosie came round with us, and offered some coaching as we went.

Like others have said - lovely place, knowledgeable people and a really laid back place to shoot.

    We loved it.

  3. If you go to Oxford gun on Saturday it will or did cost a lot - we went to a shoot at Westen Wood but went to Oxford Gun club first - Seems they have or had a noise problem and you can only use their low noise cartridges - cost us 30 quid for 50 birds and we were loaded down with cartridges -- Ring before you go.

Yep, I don't like that about Oxford Gun Company - lovely grounds though. i think I'm going to head back down the BCA shoot near me....

    Thanks for suggestions though.

  4. I couldn't get out this weekend - but I just checked my inbox...

  5. Hi guys, newbie here who has just had his gun licence dropped through the door today :D I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a clay ground where you can just kinda turn up and shoot anywhere near the Aylesbury/wycombe/bucks area? Ive been to Robin and Sally Dunkleys Greenfields clay shooting twice for lessons at common leys farm, and was wondering where people local to me like to shoot? (if there are any!)

Valley View is good fun (Amersham - alternate weekends) : http://www.valleyviewisgc.co.uk/

Churchills in Wycombe - good site, pricey and caddied rounds : http://www.ejchurchill.com/

Flightline in Maidenhead is OK as well - http://berkshirecpsa.co.uk/flightline-targets.html

    Hope this helps...

  6. This is my local shop (to work anyway) and I've been contemplating a pop down during lunchtime to see whats on offer - I still will, it is refreshing to see someone come on here and put their head above the parapet despite what seems to be some negative impressions. I'll make my own judgement on that.

With my business head on - I think you need a decent recovery story, what has changed, what will change - and by when. Coupled with some good news for people - special offers (as mentioned above) and a grass roots campaign with locals, regulars and people you can draw to the shop.

  7. I'm looking for a decent Saturday or Sunday (morning) clay shoot when visiting the Lincolnshire Wolds - Horncastle / Louth area - since starting out, I've always missed my shooting when visiting family up in the area - I'd love to find a friendly shoot for when I'm visiting.

    Any ideas PW?

  9. We had similar at one of our local shoots... my shooting buddy straighted a stand - and came off to a quiet round 'well shot' from our group.

Up steps Mr Expert (lots of coach, top-shot embroidered badges all over his shooting vest), and offers this piece of advice:

"You know what you could have done better there...?"

    Cue our response...

"Better than straighting it? Do you get points for style?"

  10. What's the norm for taking cartridges out with you. Do you leave them boxed in your carry bag, or just loose in the bag?

I appreciate bit of an odd question, but is there any reason not to just have them loose in the bag?

I leave them boxed - for no other reason than my cartridge bag takes exactly 4 boxes - with room for my license, my gloves and a pen for scorecards... I think if I emptied them in - 100 would probably take up more room than when neatly arranged in boxes.

    Your mileage may vary.
