  1. If anyone is clay shooting in Essex please give me a shout . I recently bought my first gun after 49 weeks waiting for SGC and have been shooting at Graham's and Fyfield a few times , usually going on my own just turning up and joining in with others as most of the shooters I know locally don't do clays in the Winter .It would be good to go to a few other grounds with people that have been there before. Cheers.
  2. Ok point taken, wish I had never posted , will take more care not to lose control of dogs when walking them in the dark.
  3. Point taken, fist and last post I think.
  4. Just for the record I wasn't poaching ,I don't know why Al4X suggested that I was.
  5. I was merely demonstrating that the dog is quite feisty and would make a good ratter, I certainly didn't set out to attack a badger. We stumbled across it while walking home across some allotments and it had disappeared within seconds.
  6. I am sorry that you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick. I simply enjoy walking through the countryside with my dogs and obviously come across quite a bit of wildlife , there is not much you can do when a badger comes out of nowhere in the dark and try stopping a terrier chasing a rabbit in open countryside. Sorry if I have offended anyone.
  7. Let me know if you get any terrier work. I have just posted for similar in Essex . Cheers
  8. Post withdrawn due to thoughtless comment.
  9. Room for any more ? Used to do quite abit with purse nets etc but haven't been ferreting for 20 years, live near Chelmsford , would love the opportunity.
  10. I used to go ferreting a lot with a mate who also introduced me to fishing /Hare coursing(some time ago obviously)/beating etc as he had been brought up with it . He owned the ferrets and the nets and I just used to go along and we had a good time. I guess a lot of people start out like this innocently enjoying country past times with mates, hence the reaction to being charged £50 . Although there are also those who haven't had the opportunity of growing up in the countryside , have become interested in later life and have the means to pay for a few lessons in order to make up for lost time. I am in that position as far as shooting goes ,I am starting lessons this weekend as I don't know anyone that can teach me for free so I am paying for it ,and also for my son so that he can have the benefit of enjoying healthy outdoor pursuits as he grows up. Last week I paid £20 to fish a trout lake for 5 hours caught a few rainbows took them home and ate them , quite satisfied with a good afternoon's sport in beautiful surroundings. I am sure if a few rabbits were thrown in at the end of the day OTH would have more takers, ridiculously expensive at the supermarket or butchers. Personally I wouldn't pay £50 for ferreting having been many times before , but I can understand why some would.
  11. Hi, I have recently done a bit of informal clay shooting and having enjoyed it I am now in the process of getting started properly. I have already learnt a lot from this website but have one query. Do I have to have my cabinet on the wall before I can get my licence , or just show the visiting officer where I intend to fix it ( I have an inside cupboard with masonry walls which would be an ideal place for it ) I intend to submit my licence application within the next week but don't want it to be rejected due to my lack of knowledge so if I need to get one I had better sort it out quickly! Thanks
  12. Hi, I am new to the forum. Have been to a few clay shoots over the years but recently had a go on a mates farm and got bitten by the bug. Hence first lesson booked for next weekend and shotgun licence application to be sent off next week ( as soon as I can pin my countersignatory down to complete the form !) I live near Chelmsford and there seem to be quite a few grounds in the region so I am looking forward to getting properly started . Cheers.
