  1. I moved house at the back end of October and this happened to me. FEO came out to the new house and didn't like how I'd fixed my cabinet in the new house (guns were stored with a neighbour) and so took my certificate off me until I sorted it out. I refitted it and gave him a call, he came out a couple of days later with my new certificate. He did say I could still go shooting, just couldn't buy cartridges.

     

    I notified them that I was moving house about 4 weeks before I actually moved so they had every thing ready for the week I moved in. This is Northants force.

  2. Both my businesses use Santander for banking and have done for several years, and as has already been said, it's completely free (no cash transactions for me). The internet banking, although a bit clumsy/basic in design is OK and straightforward enough to use.

     

    Last year as one of my accounts was hacked (no idea how) and completely emptied (nice, thanks). I spotted it straight away and raised it with Santander but it took about three weeks to sort out before they finally returned all the money. Not funny when you have to pay salaries etc. This was a blot on an otherwise good service.

     

    I've had bad experiences in the past with Barclays (simply appalling customer service), overall and in comparison to them Santander are very good!

  3. Have you tried anything on Charlie yet mate? Shottie, etc?

     

    I met with the neighboring land owner on Friday night just to make absolutely sure everything is above board and written down; So as soon as he gets a copy of my licence and insurance he's going to provide permission in writing (which includes using shotgun on his land as well as shooting from mine over it). I'm still waiting for my updated licence following the address change (which is a whole different story of irritation).

  4. Thanks for the continued replies!

     

    On Sunday I was granted permission to shoot over the neighbouring fields (specifically to target foxes for now) so that's a result. I'm meeting up with the landowner again in a couple of weeks to hopefully extend that to pigeons/rabbits etc., so that's a bit of a bonus.

     

    My FAC application is going in this week.

  5. In the short term I'm definitely going to have a go with the shottie; I'll pick some BB carts up and have a go with baiting an area. I've got a pretty good idea where they're coming into the paddock, I'm not familiar or confident enough to set traps though and I'm not sure the wife will approve of that approach!

     

    As regards a mentor, I would have thought that offering this straight away would have increased my chances of getting an FAC approved, but opinions on this thread seemed to be split, any reason why that is? For info I am a member of BASC and CPSA and have been for several years.

     

    I also have a .177 HW100KT that I bought off of here and have been using on the village rabbits for a good while! I guess this can only help the FAC application.

  6. Thanks for all the responses. It seems like a .22CF is the way to go with the foxes, I do have rabbits on the paddock too so I guess it will do no harm putting in for a .22LR as well? Is it really a 3 month wait in Northants at the moment (I am near Towcester for the chap that asked)? My shotgun cert is due for renewal in 2012 so I guess it's an ideal time to get the FAC ball rolling. I think I'll pick up a box of BB carts for the weekend as well, in the meantime.

     

    I've spoken to my friend in the village and apparently no-one shoots the foxes around us that he is aware of; probably explains why there is such a problem.

     

    My wife text me an hour ago saying another chicken has gone since this morning, it's past ridiculous now.

  7. Just over a week ago I moved into a new house that has a 5 acre paddock to the rear, and also has a large pond. The previous occupier warned me that he had previously had ducks and chickens, and that the foxes had killed the lot. So far, in 11 days of living there I have lost 5 chickens and a pet rabbit. One chicken was taken this morning in daylight (unfortunately found headless by my 8 year old), just after they were let out. I have seen a large dog fox in my drive on two occasions after dark.

     

    I have shotguns, but I am thinking that I need something with a bit more range to take care of this problem, some guidance (and I appreciate this is subjective without seeing the land!) or advice from you experienced fox shooters would be very welcome.

     

    The paddock is approximately 320m from my house to the end. As you stand with back to the house and look down the paddock, to the left and rear are open fields (100 acres plus). The paddock dips down to the rear and (to a lesser degree the side) then the field raises up so I would have a safe back drop with full visibility. I know the owner of the fields and believe he will give me permission to shoot over the land. Directly to the right of the house I have neighbours (none to the left); but their gardens end about 50m down my border, from then on it is unused church owned land (absolutely no option for shot etc going that way). I shoot with one of my neighbours around my village, he mostly uses a .22LR, he said he would act as a mentor for me.

     

    So after all that waffle, I guess my question, from your experience, is what is the likelihood of me being granted permission to use a rifle on my paddock? Once again I know you have to see it to get the full picture but I would welcome your thoughts. I know I'd be limited on calibre to maybe a .177 and I've read many topics on here about shooting foxes with one, so I don't want to start that debate over again, I'm just after some helpful advice/tips on which way to go. I must also stress that I am completely new to rifles so go gently! Much appreciated!

  8. I've had two Impreza's, a 2001 UK300 (number 64) and a 1999 RB5 WR Edition (number 320). Absolutely brilliant cars, not the cheapest to run, they love the fuel and they love being driven "enthusiastically".

     

    If your neighbours has been serviced every 4K then that's a very good sign, servicing on mine wasn't especially expensive and both cars were 100% reliable (even after a number of Prodrive upgrades).

     

    Not many mint 'classic' examples left, I can't recommend them enough (I wish I'd kept one if not both of them!)

  9. I have just moved into a new property (South Northants, near Towcester) that has about 10-15 large apple trees (all different varieties, eaters and cookers) that are heavy with fruit.

     

    If they're any good to anyone then please feel free to come and collect them, it's a crying shame to see so many going to waste and I haven't got time to do anything with them this year! PM me for address etc.

  11. I've just bought a property that has a large pond in the garden; I need to fence this off temporarily to keep it safe for my 2 year old son. Unfortunately this means I'm going to need about 150 metres of fencing, so want to keep it as cheap as possible!

     

    I'm guessing that the cheapest fencing would be of the livestock variety, can anyone recommend anywhere around Northampton (close to Towcester) that may be able to help me out? Any idea what sort of cost this is going to be?

     

    Any advice appreciated!

    Cars got a bit more interesting from this point onward as business started to do well, and before kids arrived!

  13. I am in the process of selling/buying a property, in addition to what has already been said:

     

    - Do not send people round to view who have no intention of buying or are completely inappropriate for the property type. I had an older couple look round my 4 bed two story detached cottage who were looking for a small bungalow! They were talked into it due to the ground floor size. Waste of their time waste of mine.

    - Do not send random employees to facilitate viewings who have never seen the property or know anything about it!

    - Provide honest feedback from genuine viewings, this can only help to improve the sale process.

    - Valuations, over valuing only wastes (a lot!) of time.

    - Once a sale has been agreed then pass on feedback from buyers and buyers solicitors on progress, at least weekly (I am finding this incredibly frustrating!).

     

    It is very important that you can justify the charged fees and the vendor feel that have a value for money service (in particular at the high end!)
