Yes it's a pretty gun. I usually buy more modern stuff but recently i have had an appreciation for some of the older skills where things were less machine made. Thanks for the photo from when you had her...she is a well travelled old girl lol Regards Kevin

Hi Bishop You are 100% right. I checked the gun as soon as it was handed to me and I could see the right firing pin protrusion differs and has been adapted to strike a little to one side. It was disappointing but I did get my hands on 2 live 3" shells so I removed the shot and powder and used one to test the firing pin...it fired fine so it seems they did rectify the issue. Attached is a photo of the primer strike...and the gun so you can know it is same one. Like you said...its a lovely looking gin with those barrels. Was the pitting under the forend there seen you had it? It's nitro proof so must have had that pitting but barrels are pretty thick at that place I guess. I need to get some loadings sorted...loom forward to use her and not just look and play with her. Rely appreciate the heads up on this thankfully its a happy ending. Regards Kevin

OK thos is worth knowing, thanks for the heads up. I will try get some capped cases or buy some 10 bore to cut and use as test to see if the gun fires both primers and where the pin strike is on the primer. I bought it as it looked nice and got £300 off the asking price

OK thanks for letting me know...I should get it tomorrow so as soon as I can get some capped cases I can test it. Its mostly to be held as section 58 but I do intend to use it first. Did you reload for it? Sorry...I should get it Saturday as it arrives at my RFD tomorrow if all goes well

Hi Smudger687 If I can get some old cartridges I likely keep them as companion to the gun for old times sake...looking into reloading possibly with a bunch of others not too far from me who all have 10 bores too

How close to me can you get them? I am interested and prepared to take a chance on the primers if there's a way to het them down here

Hi Dipper I was thinking of using Pyrodex to be close to BP experience and pressures but I do have stock of Vectan SP7....do you reccomend any specific powders/loads? I should collect the gun next weekend so should have a chance to see what it's proof marks say with regarding proofed pressure etc. I have reloaded plenty for my rifles but not done shotshells before

Yes I am planning to gather hulls and wads etc to reload in due course but would like some original factory cartridges too. Also I have no load data for this 10 bore 2 5/8 yet

I have asked a specialist company...I await their reply as if this can be done legally and safely at reasonable price for transport then it would be great.

Shame we are so far away, it's strange as the guy selling me the gun had some cartridges for it but couldn't transfer even to RFD yet just cartridges send to your residential address...must be a way but its cost I guess...just cartridges charge £15 to deliver 1000 cartridges I am told.....I just can't find how they are doing it

Yes cartridges no longer made but they are still out there...Holts auction has them quite often but driving to Norfolk is a long drive for a box of cartridges...I'm willing to travel within a reasonable distance. Reloading is my last resort...just want to try it out with original loadings.

Hi I have an old hammergun comming to me thats nitro proofed and on SGC, it's 2 5/8 chamber and I would like to pick up some original cartridges for it if anyone has any or knows where I can get some? Also interested in load data using pyrodex or other BP substitute and once fired 20 bore cases to trim down in case I have to start reloading Thanks Kevin

I am looking to pick up an obsolete 10 bore...preferably 2 7/8 chamber and nitro proof...prefer top lever opening. Needs to be in safe working condition as I would add to my SGC just to use for old times sake before revert to sec58 antique as a nice historical firearm (something I don't have in my collection) Any pointers to a shop that has one would be appreciated Restricted budget of £1000 makes it tough and failed to secure one at recent auction
