  1. Before I reply to this can I thank the lads for recommending us, your continued support is much appreciated.

Gordon is correct - you cannot work on the barrel bites on a Medallist it would be inadvisable to do this.

The question is loose and off the face - this is two separate issues. Normally on the Medallist they suffer with lack of grip. To remedy this the action has to be fully stripped, the bolt removed and by a highly competent tig welder additional metal is laid onto the bolt. Then by means of accurate filing and use of a smoke lamp the bolt is realigned with the barrel grip and this remedies lack of grip and often pulls down the barrels back onto the face. Option 2 - wear has taken place on the barrel pivots. On an English gun we would be talking about the cross pin. The two circular studs on either side of the action to which the barrels hinge onto have become worn and allow the barrels to move forward off the face. This I would suggest is unlikely and the lack of grip is causing the problem but diagnosing by email is not an option. I would suggest that you seek out a competent smith in your area and get him to take a careful look as this is a major safety issue. The cost of reinstating grip in our workshops including the strip and rebuild would be circa £140.

    I trust this helps.

PS Gordon if you find yourself in the area drop in for a cup of coffee.

  2. ive been shooting for about 4 years now and always shot with one eye closed. its more a habit than anything but recently have been told that i will miss noend by this method. what is the easiest way of getting used to shooting with both eyes open as at the moment i can see the whole side of the gun when i mount it with both eyes? HELP!!!

OMG just had to reply to this, having read two pages of excuses, here's the facts, some may find them painful, unfortunately there is no easy cure. If the Lord has deemed that you have a right master eye, the gun has to be mounted on the right shoulder and, in consequence, the right eye sits down the rib line of your gun. If you are left eye dominant, then the gun has to be shot from the left shoulder, obviously leaving the left eye looking down the rib of the gun. To shoot with a shotgun you require both eyes open. If you disagree with this, try catching a ball with one eye closed, or driving a car. Can it be done? Obviously, yes and many do, however, just imagine just how good these one eyed shooters would be if they used both eyes. Is there any merit in these shooting aids - easy hit and dots? Yes, there is, it allows weak people who will not change to the other shoulder an opportunity to shoot slightly better than they were previously however, if you wish to do the job properly, change shoulders. Is there an easy route? No. Can you buy a solution? No. Sorry, the truth hurts.

    Regards, Sage

  4. In pairs for Skeet use the left eye for the high house clay and the right eye for the low house both eye's should be cross-eyed at the centre post

For sporting do the same left-right crosser use left eye, right left use left eye, DTL use both

    Simples two eye's two targets

You are having a laugh aren't you tell me you are taking the p.................

  5. Has anyone ever seen or used a full moderated 10/22 barrel. Where would you even buy one and at what cost.

They sound as if they would quite and deadly quite but I bet the cost a bit.

It just so happens that I have one, and for sale aaaaaaaaaaaaand if I did not like you I would sell it to you. give me a call your stock and forend is finished and looks good.

    regards Sage.

  6. Don't go running to the local gun shop and buy your gun

Go and start the job and ask the head gamekeeper what he suggests, they may well have very good guns you can use, far better for the job than you can afford, you are starting this job to learn and the head gamekeeper will appreciated it much more if you ask his or her advice first, just don't jump the gun ask and learn

    Good luck

    Good call like that.

  7. Here is the barrel three pics one after the dent has been removed, one midway through preparation, and the last two once blacking was finished, before being packed up.

Now I know where my black handled turn screw went!!!

Spot on job Paul proud to work with you.

Have a good break and regards to all at number !

    Sage.

  8. You haven't got time to be on here what with 64 guns to do and several driven days to decide on....

Thanks about reminding me about my work load you ******, this is one of the few unwind things I do.

And I think you can confirm my 28 gauge kills well.

  9. She has not dropped yet days to do worse than waiting for R&R on tour.

410 has worked well for me 28 throws the same load or larger so happy it will kill if I do my bit.

Just not heard much about the Webleys

Big problem with a 28 is that you will shoot it and fall in love with it super little caliber.

Chris and I both shoot our driven days with a 28, they handle and kill so well. Pick the the right cartridge and they will kill even the best of the West countries premier drive's birds Do not under estimate this super little calibre.

As to the Webley for the money they are ok try and find a nice second hand one as you are going to chop the stock to fit junior, nice to save the Vat and dealer profit.

    Best Regards Sage.

Take care and keep your head down.

  10. Had to send my trigger unit off my Old Williams shotgun away to UK Gun Repairs to be repaired, and can i say the part has come back repaired from these superb people, totally honest from the beginning and the repair is invisible,if you have any problems with your guns give Peter a call and i'm sure that he will try and sort you out.----Dave

Thanks Dave We enjoy what we do but to get feed back like this makes it all worth the effort,

Thanks to you all from Dennis and Peter and all the guys here at UK Guns.

  11. When you mount the gun for general use you should be able to get 2-3 fingers between the tip of your nose and the back of your right thumb. Or 3-4 fingers for trap shooting.

A shade long thats a little old school now most top shooters are a lot closer to their thumb

  12. Hi all,my browning grade 5 stock is looking a bit tired and also it's got some dents and scratches.what's the best kit to buy to really bring the grain out and what's the best way of removing dents/scratches.there's a gunsmith locally that is holland and holland trained and everyone says he's the nuts but he takes ages and it's going to cost £150-£250 So I'm thinking of doing it my self any suggestions

    [/quot

    [/

Trust me if you can get a full London oil finish on both stock and forend for £150 to £250 from an x Holland Finisher/stocker grab the offer with both hand but it must be a true London finish. We are in a very low cost area with small overheads and we are £220 plus postage and it takes 3 weeks to get a proper finish, so go shake that mans hand..... quick

  13. Hi

Bit of a newbie still but I have been shooting clays for about a year now with my 2nd hand B525 Sporter. On cleaning the gun yesterday I noticed the firing pins look like they are starting to wear (not smooth tipped) I have put around 5000 shells through it since owning and I am not sure how much it has been used before I got it.

Can anyone advise on how long these should last?

    Thanks in advance.

    Barry

Hi Browning and Miroku suffer from f/pin wear often the bottom barrel comes of worst, if you can see staring or change of shape it would be wise to have a spare pin in your care and when the gun starts to miss fire change the faulty pin. the gun will not just stop working but you will get the odd misfire. very easy job for anyone with a few basic tools 10 to 15 mins max if you require pins give me a call regards Sage/Dennis.

  14. HDAV I was thinking of around £800 for a second hand gun, I still think my choice will be limited looking at guntrader and the like, I am reasonably tall at 6 foot but not hugely built so as you say straight case is suiting me. I think I just want a bit more flash gun as a treat and want to make sure I do it right, my old Rizzini sideplate stil a handsome gun though.

Please get your new gun fitted for you you will never look back at 6 foot 90+% of guns will be to short of the peg and with a longer stock length cast to fit is a must if you wish to shoot to your best.

    Regards Sage.

  15. I will be looking to purchase in the next couple of months a 12ga side by side

    shotgun.

I would like to buy new with a budget of around £600 - £900. The gun will

not be used very often and I'm not too fussed about buying a lesser known make.

I have looked at a make called Yildiz. They seem to be retailing within budget.

    Are they a good gun?

    Thanks.

Just short of the mark for a nice english box lock but a mint AYA N0 4 is in reach. Also a nice Webley 700 could be found both would serve you well and should you wish to move on at a latter date to grander things both would be very easy to px or sell.

Should you wish any help from me please pm me Sage/Dennis.

  16. Thanks for the replies. What was the price on a custom vest sage?

Sorry chap I do not know the answer to that one Stella and fags ...... the few brain cells I had but recall company went out of their way to help and the bill was less than I thought it would be.

  17. Anyone bought a Top Gun shooting vest only ask as Im looking to get a vest for the clays and they all seem to be quite short and tight and they do them in 4xl. Bought a deerhunter vest in 3xl and it was just too short.

    Thanks Alex :good:

Go to Top Guns site grab tel number, give them a call and you will find they are very helpfuf. I have had custom vests made by them and have been treated very well.
