I'd have baited it and got the air rifle out. But well done for now. 👍

We had 2 years lockdown which in my opinion affected all, even though we didn't realise it.
I started to become so un interested in just about everything. I decided to give myself a kick up the backside and get out the wife's way. I decided to take the rifle out and just sit out in the truck and watch the world go by, it was enough to kick start the interst I had before. I lost 3 really good perms, in that time of moping unfortunately.

Good move Rimmer I would of done the same even with a none legal Deer calibre and if that Buck was out of season. It's all comes down to common sense and animal welfare. Nice one Doug for pointing out the legislation for all to read.
I think he'd rather do time for shooting deer illegally than have his name changed to RIMMER 😃😆
Hello Christian Sutton

I understand peoples concern, but i would be very surprised if any prosecution ruled over animal welfare even IF it was an illegal act.

Scarpa. Nuff said.
I've got 2 pairs, the oldest must be 20 years old now, there a tad rough looking now but OK. Used round the garden. My best pair bought off here ages ago, new as far as I could tell..also have a pair of Chiruca 10inch Boa for the really wet days.
Scarpa have always been my 1st choice.

And therein lies the problem maybe?
Giving them brown kecks may result in a visit from an ARV?
Again lol.

One farmer had a parcel of land threw a wood and there was 6 foot deer fencing and no shooting signs all threw the private wood all where full of pellet holes signs are a waste of time nobody bothers about reading them now
If we don't do anything we accept what we get. I'm happy just trying. You will never prevent the scrtote type but there's a couple that walks their dogs that may think twice. Probably more so after they hear a rifle shot. 👍
We'll have to wait and see.

Every piece of glass has an effect on clarity when compared to the naked eye. What matters is the quality of glass and coating. It's all about work involved creating the end product. Hence cost generally gives better clarity.
Compare cheap camera lenses costing £50 to similar lenses costing £10,000 .
So answering your question, yes it will make a difference. How much depends on your window glazing and your binoculars.

Got used to that along with runner and assorted dogs.
The thing was, even with 2 of us spotting deer with thermal, neither of us saw him, it was like he was dropped in by helicopter.

I once pulled up the truck having seen a munty go into a wheat field. Got the rifle on the sticks and waited, as expected 5 or so minutes it came out about 70yds and cleanly shot. What I hadn't noticed a cyclists had waited till for me to take the shot. He was behind me, he stopped had a chat, he told me he didn't want to spook the deer so kept back. Nice chap, there not all weirdos 😆

The Munty?
Ooops. No a random bloke appeared from nowhere.

Do nothing or do something. Either way you can't win.
I'm trying 👌 that's enough for me.
But 1 thing is I can now tell wondering walkers to get back on the footpath.
Shot a munty a while ago, got down from my seat and in less than 2 mins he was stood at the bottom of the seat looking up.
I didn't see him a mate did in another seat.

Cable ties ?
I've got some 900mm cable ties but I'll need 3 + .
I'm going to screw them up with a decent hammer after a cup of tea.
Thanks for the suggestions 😀.

I would go Guinea fowl or Partridge, Guinea fowl being 1st choice, and of course there's quail they are nice too and only 15- 20 minutes in the oven.

But the fair give you a fright when they blunt your chainsaw or at the sawmill
I'll be long gone by the time that happens.
I caught a nail or piece of barbed wire fencing using a chainsaw once, learnt a valuable lesson that day. WEAR PPE

Hello, What about some nice cord rather than screws or nail, i put up a feeder using some thick cord
Didn't think of that, more difficult getting the rope round the trunk, or branches. But with looking at. 👌

After a bit of guidance,
ive got some signs to put up in some woodland, simple "Private Woodland Please Keep to the footpath" 3 in total 30x50cm all will be above 8 feet so out of reach of potential damage.
I have decided on 2 options, not a difficult choice i know, its either brass screws or nails,
Which one, i will probably use the same tool for attaching either. 😄

I've used Shania Twain "Feels Like a Woman" before..
Before remote callers I used an I pod thingy and speaker, I'd set up 30 minutes of calls to loop with a 2 minute silent track at the beginning. Put it out in a field about 60-100 yds away. 1 time I thought kids were about playing their boombox. It wasnt it was my caller playing Shania..
Can't remember if I shot anything that night.

The Internet preditor sounds don't seem to resemble anything natural. I have an electric caller and the only thing that it ever called in was an owl which nearly took my mates hat off. I had this once when I was hand calling Charlie. I never saw it, I never heard it. My owl brushed my hat and scared the residue out of me. I can call a charlie with hand or various squeaker but the Internet sounds just sound like some old boy. Making a load of random noises. I used to try sounds out on the dogs and there were only a couple that they were interested in. I found that squeakys cut out of various toys worked well. I found that calling was a combination of light levels, wind direction, background and luck. Also it is how much and how long the call lasts generally is important. If it is to much Charlie can get spooked and go. educated to the danger.
One of the advantages of remote callers are taking the prey to an area its either safe to shoot or not coming directly in your direction. I've had success with both but sometimes the additional tool in the box gets the job done easier..
I've had a caller out in a field close to a rearing pen that due to area and wind direction was, at the time more suited than hand calls. 👍

Was out last night after muntjac and took a pair of Bushnell infinity for spotting in woodland. Pretty good for the price I paid £0.00.
If its a high seat or more open I'd use Leica RF hdb 10x42.
