  1. Thanks BB, please keep me informed if you have an earlier litter.
  2. Doeas anyone know of any planned litters sired by Rothievale Medlar or Murrayeden Appollo, around Oct. So born around Dec/Jan. I know its a bad time, but my circumstances dictate the timing. I will contact the sire owners nearer the time. I just want to get on the puppy lists early. Thanks
  3. Thanks all. Ive used cleansing drops for a week, every 2 days. A lot of brown waxy dirt coming out but no significant improvement. So its off to the get on Monday. My wife had hers done, not because she doesn't listen to me!, and they said current medical advice is against it. We'll see, he's much more important! It didn't help her! Thanks again. That's vet, not get. He's a really nice guy.
  4. My spaniel is 7. He has over the last month become rather deaf. I'm wondering if its a wax build up? He is in no discomfort, scratching etc. Has anyone had any experience of this? Is there a way of cleaning their ears without going to the vet?
  5. Sorry, £230. I can't download the photos. Please send me your email addresses for photos. Thanks

  7. Thanks all for the help. I've found two litters coming up so fingers crossed, on paper they look superb!
  8. Have seen a litter coming up. I've got the parents names but can't find the dam's pedigree. Can anyone tell me how I can find this out? Thanks
  9. Great. Just what I want. Recommendations help enormously. Thanks
  10. Thanks both. Could you give me some details please BB. much appreciated. I've been thinking about getting a pup but up until very recently my heart wasn't really in it. It's only now i've realised my dog will have to be semi-retired for his own good, I would be selfish to carry on working him full time, and I'm prepared to commit to another dog.
  11. Hello, Does anyone know of any nice l/w ESS litters, preferably within a few hours of S.Wales. The usual stuff, lots of ftch, ftws. Any recommendations? Thanks
  12. Thanks all for the help, it has helped a lot. When the time comes then , I'll just go for what I think is the nicest pup, dog or bitch. We've had 2 dogs together before. Only once did we have a problem with a J.Russell, but they're a law unto themselves, so I'm not counting that. It was the dog/bitch scenario that I was worried about.
  13. Thanks, yes I've thought about those scenarios. Does anyone keep a dog and a bitch together? Is it not wise? My dog is the biggest woose ever, but yes if another dog came into his patch who knows?
  14. Very reluctantly I'm going to semi-retire my spaniel following a snapped cruciate ligament, hopefully this will decrease the chances of the other knee going. It will be like severing my right arm, but probably best for him. So, that will mean getting another dog, another springer. The question is, a dog, or bitch? Hopefully I then won't need another dog for several years, so that decreases the need for a bitch. I've never had a bitch before, always dogs. Will two dogs together or a dog and a bitch be better? Any advice please?
  15. Thanks both, 30" waist but with all the clobber on probably 34"
  16. Wanted cheap 12g cartridge belt. For wildfowling, so not leather. If it could fit 3.5 carts also great.
  17. Thanks Ollie. The terrain here can be rough also. I was thinking, and will do the same as you. Good advice, thanks again.
  18. Hi Ollie, How is she after 18 months? Are the sessions rough shooting, beating ? How short are the sessions? Thanks
  19. Thanks Darren and OF, Yes me rushing it is the big problem. I took him to the local deep pond today to swim and there were some mallard there. He enjoyed that swim! But then went into work mode briefly, limping a bit tonight. After a 20 min lead walk he's fine, as you said it's the sudden bursts and stops. So yes a long way to go. I'm realizing this season is probably out.
  20. Hello George, Boy you have my sympathy. I've just coming to the end, HOPEFULLY, of post op ACL. I've tried to write down things as they happened to help other acl sufferers. Also my stupid mistakes that I would not do again. Several people in the thread gave very helpful knowledgeable advice. Hopefully it will all help you. Main points, Find a vet who does the op several times a week. Discuss the ops with him. Mine did 2 types, but there are loads of variations out there. He didn't mention redoing it (please GOD no). I wish I'd had the op done asap, but that's up to you. If you have the op, stick to strict lead walks for 6 weeks. Watch his diet. Hope all turns out ok, Best wishes.
  21. Giving an update incase it helps someone with the same problem, I hope not. Sorry if it bores others. Well the op. was 5 weeks yesterday. Keeping the dog in is very hard initially. Possibly because you're so used to the taking them out routine and the looks they give you - what have I done wrong?. But it has to be done, strict lead walks, hard to do but vital. It does then get easier as you and the dog get used to it. After about 1 week he got a couple of stitches out. The vet used a staple gun to replace them. No LA, extremely quick, hardly any flinching! Brilliant. Two weeks post op his knee swelled up in a matter of hours, very scary. The vet was not that concerned, it's a seroma and will go down in about 2 weeks, a common complication probably caused by him doing too much. He said no drainage required unless it really hurts, drainage can open a path for infection. All internet sites say they don't hurt, well it hurt definitely made his limp worse. It took about 2.5 weeks to go down, still v.slightly swollen. He's now going out for 2-3, 15-20 min lead walks per day, and some deep water swimming 2-3 mins on one walk.. The muscle wastage on that leg is obvious and will take some building up. He walks fine on the leg, limps a little at night sometimes. I must admit I do let him off the lead for a very short time on open ground, no dogs, squirrels etc. to do his business and have a sniff around. The main problems have been, 1. Me letting him do too much 2. Him putting on weight due to restricted exercise. Anyway I can see light at the end of the tunnel, recooperation going fine, but it's still going to be a long haul. I'm planning short easy shooting outings (one an easy 15 min walk down the marsh, no ups and downs, maybe some easy swimming if I get something) in a few weeks but am very apprehensive / scared. I'll have to have a serious think first.
