  1. Now then fellas, does anyone know of any air-rifle hunting books worth looking at? cheers
  2. Now then, im looking to sell/swap my airmagnum camo if your interested?, theres details and a picture in the buy, sell, swap area of this forum
  3. Found a shop in leeds not far from the missus' place so gonna take both the SMK springer and Umerex Airmagnum in for a PX deal this weekend. I was thinking about BSA (Ultra, Hornet or Scorpion), AGS PCR1 or perhaps an Air Arms S200. As an entry into the Precharged scene, anyone got any thoughts? im going to go for .22 also. Cheers compadres :look:

  5. no problem snakebite, i've got a few numbers from a mag, so i'll let u know how i get on
  6. If you have not had it for long then you wil not have grown out of it. You will not be able to out shoot it so stick with it for a while! The technique you develop with it will last a lifetime, you may fancey a new rifle and good luck to you, but don't think you have out grown a springer! I understand what you're saying, I've had a springer for a while and it's great. Trouble is that it's also very noisy when fired and also when cocking it again (not great when hunting). So I went for the Umerex thinking it would be better (quieter, and and 8 round bolt action). Unfortunately the co2 powered umerex is even louder than my springer and i've also discovered that co2 behaves differantly at differant temperatures and i've found that the accuracy varies considerably from day to day. I know that if i spent enough time with it that i would eventually get used to it etc and perhaps be able to judge the behaviour of it as time goes by. But at the end of the day, i just want a reliable, quiet rifle that i can have confidence in and rely on, frankly i dont feel that the umerex fits the bill at all. My plan is to find a decent gun shop that will do a part ex and take both rifles in, but im going to take my time choosing the right replacement, that is hopefully going to be with me for very long time.
  7. Im shooting an Umerex Airmagnum 850 (camo version) with a Walther 3-9 x 40 scope at the moment, not had it that long, but i think im a bit too demanding for it and i should have took more time to choose when i bought it. i actually got it from my local gun shop, but he seems to have become a corporate shill for this german company (umerex / brockock)and doesnt stock anything else. Want something dependable, accurate and above all quiet. Also multi-shot would be a big advantage.
  8. I've decided to make the switch to a pre-charged multi-shot but i could do with some sort of part-exchange deal if poss, anyone got any iseas? cheers
  9. Yes you can, i got a packet of ten pellets when i bought a sample pack from pellpax. I went on to order a box of penatrators after trying them all out. Penetrators are a bit pricey compared to other pellets, but well worth the money in my opinion.
  10. Didnt realise that, what about my question though? and if ar***oles only nearly always stink, which ones dont?
  11. just out of curiosity, if a police officer knocked at your door and asked if you had been firing an airgun in your garden and you hadnt (but you had one on the premises), is he entitled to confiscate it anyway? even if it had never been in the garden at all? this is hyperthetical and im just curious. I'd be inclined to refuse thats all. Also, i read a story about a guy whose garage got burgled one night last year. The noise of the window breaking woke him up and he could clearly see a man rumaging around, so he phoned the police and reported it, telling them the theif was still on his property. The police response was that they didnt have enough patrols to send someone straight away but they would be there asap. He rang them back a minute later and told them they didnt need to bother coming around after all, he'd just gone outside and shot the theif! minutes later several squad cars appeared with a socco unit and armed response, they arrested the theif (uninjured) and said to the homeowner "i thought you said you shot him?" to which the man replied " i thought you said you had no cars to send!"
  12. Now then chief, i had some lagun penetrator in .22 included in a sample pack from pellpax, they were very good actually. I shot 8 out of the 10 pellets in the pack and they grouped together very well at 30yrds. Thats using a 12ftlb rifle mind. I havent used them other than that, but i put an order in for some just this morning. hope that helps.
  13. Now then fellas, im sure most of you already know how fantastic those sample packs of pellets from pellpax. I couldnt beleive the differance between the differnt brands and types of pellet. After trying about 20 types, the groupings were ending up in differant sizes and all over the target. One brand didnt even touch the target at all, i dont know where they ended up Finally ended up with the perfect ammo for my airmagnum: Webley Lazadome .22 (5.5mm) 16.0g not only was the grouping as small as a 10p peice at 30 yrds, they all ended up in the bulseye aswell! bonus!
  14. No then, just had some bad news from uttings, theres no logun lamp filters in exhistance apparantly, well, not until feb/march anyway i've tried ringing everywhere with no luck so far. Does anyone know much about a Hawke Lazer/Light kit? i've pasted the advert below: Hawke Tactical Laser / Light Kit Ideal for checking zero, night shooting and pest control The quick and precise targeting system makes this combination kit ideal for rat or rabbit shooting, checking zero and night time shooting. Features: • 5mW Laser 10mm dot at 10m range (eye safe) • Windage and elevation sdjustable laser • Xenon target illuminator range 25yds. • Fits any 25mm (1") riflescope tube up to 50mm objective lens • Remote Switch and integral switch • Battery supplied
  15. Cheers guys, tried my local guy 1st but he doesnt stock them and would rather sell me a whole new lamp that he does have in before ordering filters for me. So uttings it was then, and im told that they are winging their way to me right now. I've also just got a sample pack from pellpax, so after i've found the perfect ammo at the weekend theres gonna be a few less mouths to feed around mr bunnys table
  16. I'd just like to second those comments actually. I havent used an air rifle since i was a kid and am thoroughly enjoying getting back into the sport. Largely thanks to the help and advice found on this forum from very knowledgable and decent people. Cheers guys.
  17. Now then fellas, i recently purchased an Umerex Airmagnum 850 powered by a co2 bottle thinking it would be quieter than my old springer. But it does seem actually just as loud if not louder. Is this normal or should i have gone for a pre-charged? I originally thought that maybe my silencer was naff but even dry firing is noisy. cheers
  18. Now then fellas, does anybody know where i can get hold of some filters for my logun lamp? i bought the lamp and filters from blackpool air rifles mid december but they still cant get hold of the filters! I've tried pellpax also but got the same response.
  19. Cheers guys, i set up a little range yesterday lunchtime at 30 yrds exactly and had the same problems, then after much fannying about and about to throw the towel in, realised that it was probably down to the flimsy plaggy bipod i was using! took it off and things were much better. unfortunately ran out of time to finish the job but learned a valuable lesson there i thought. As for pellets, i've been onto the pellpax website and ordered one of their sample packs to test out (and a more substantial bag to prevent any more knocks in transit) i'll see how it goes anyway.
  20. have to say i agree with snake on this one, i recently went to the the same local shop i went to as a kid after a long time away and actually saved money compared to buying online! the guy even fitted & lined up my scope for me as well as the silencer (thats not actually difficult i know, but still shows good service) thumbs up from me
  21. Now then, bought myself an Umerex airmagnum 850 last week, not taken it out on the field yet as not had much luck keeping it on the straight and narrow so to speak. I had it zeroed in just fine when i got it home but think it may have had a slight knock during transit in the back of my truck (although it is in a well padded bag), tried again tonite over 30 yrds and the pellets were ending up all over the show. Im wondering if its possibly the ammunition im using that may disagree with the rifle? Also, im getting a puff of smoke from the barrel when firing, is this normal? cheers.
  22. Cheers, had a good look around and reckon i know where the burrows are, found a new place to make a (sort of) hide close where i saw the little ******* last week so should hopefully have more luck. Also, this may be a daft question, but is it possible to decoy rabbits at all?
  23. Cheers for the suggestions, all very much appreciated. I'm having a hard time getting the bunnies to stick their heads out of the undergrowth at the minute (cant blame em really) i was layed in the brambles for a couple of hours tonight without any sightings. then as i was giving up for the night saw a handful in very low light (just black shapes really) right at the far end of the field. Trouble is the driveway to the hotel runs right past there and makes it kind of high profile for incoming / outgoing guests. Think i need to formulate a new strategy and try again next week. Perhaps now they've been shot at a few times theyre more wary and the lamp may prove usefull with the floodlights off? or leave the lights off for a few days to let them get more cocky and go in for the cull?
  24. Hi, im newly registered on here and im looking for a little advice on despatching bunnies. Im a maintenance manager at a hotel, we have a large-ish field area and masses of underbrush largely populated by rabbits - which didnt used to be a problem until they started eating the bedding plants etc in the gardens. So i got the green light to perform a bit of a cull. Drawbacks being that i hadnt fired an air rifle since i was a kid and i had to be as discreet as possible as to not upset any guets at the hotel etc. Anyway i got myself a fairly basic .22 smk rifle with a good scope and a sound moderator from the same gun shop i went to with my dad as a kid and have bagged 3 rabbits in 2 trips so far. I get the feeling i should be getting more but the field area is floodlit at night (although i could turn the lights off) and after killing one rabbit i rarely get the chance to have a go at any others. Im now thinking maybe i should be using a lamp with the floodlights off? also i've had a go at a few magpies with little success, should i be using a 177? p.s does anyone know of any farms or similar in the south humberside area i could practise on? cheers.
