  1. no such thing as under-cooked duck. You can think of it like steak, it's best char-grilled and crispy on the edges and pink with slight red in the middle. All living things will be carrying bugs. Farmed birds are a lot more susceptible to them from the confines of their life, hygiene etc. In jerky making marinades and salt kill most bacteria and the dehydrating process removes moisture and therefore prevents bacteria from forming.

  2. That looks like it came out a treat! I personally wouldn't bother mincing it and using a gun, I prefer the natural shapes. Jerky seasoning mixes can be quite expensive, all the ingredients are pretty easy and cheap to get separately. Really good tip is to partially freeze your jerky meat before slicing it, means you can get really neat thin cuts without the meat floppin' about. Check the youtube link i just posted in the 'Goose jerky' topic for a good recipe for all game meats.

  3. dvd is just a type of storage. Obviously you can't use a DVD in an CD player for music playback, but for just data it's perfect. But really, just get a memory stick, it'll cost less in the long-run.

  4. clearly no-where's perfect, though I personally don't want to live my life based on "If I get ill...". I don't want to put up with people blatantly sponging off the state. I would want to move abroad for the better quality of life, not the necessarily the quality of the health system.

  5. I'm 26, currently a theatre technician (arts not medical) so not sure how "needed" I would be out there but I could definitely find work. Was a qualified tree surgeon before this. Think I'd like to get a job in Cabelas

I love the cold, so Canada does appeal. Plus the thought of sharing your world with elk and the like would be incredible.

    The English countryside,Cream teas in Devon,Balti's in bham,pigeons in warwickshire,turkey at xmas,great cuppa..England isn't so bad.

I have traveled extensively...still great to get home .

If its what you want..go for it,, :good:

I'm sure all of this is still available out there... it's a pretty big place. Plus, turkey at Christmas...

  6. I'm not, yet, but has anyone here done so? If so what are your experiences, good bad or ugly?

Similarly is anyone else contemplating it, if so what will it take to make the leap?

I appreciate that the grass isn't always greener, but its going brown quite quickly here.

  7. Spent a nice couple of days up with Fenny over the weekend.

It's a 1.5 hour drive from my house to Fenny's door, which meant an early start to get there for 6am, but it's always worth it. Weren't even finished setting up and had the birds wanting to drop in around us. I should think the longest lull in shooting was just enough time to eat a sandwich.

Should have shot a lot more birds, my first day shooting this year and fear a little rusted.

This is my Friday mornings bag of 32, some decoying well but a lot of challenging shots (that's my excuse anyway)

Big thanks to Fenny for sorting me out with the shooting, top man. :good:
