Good news I know of a ss1 for sale.......... problem is they want £180,000 for it !!!!!!
Prices are going up by the week so I guess classic vehicles are a better investment than money in the bank........ I sold a Squariel a few years ago for someone and 12 moths later, the same machine sold for 2 1/2 times what I'd sold it for.
I've posted this before but as we're not seeing many pics. Here's my baby here in Portugal!
When she was in South Africa - Note I had to change the exhausts when she arrived in her new home here...... but I'm working on trying to find a way to have them refitted without breaking the noise laws:

I have a long term hankering for one of those stepside trucks and would be inclined to stick a good (possibly diesel) V8 with 4x4 drive train in it.
I spend 4 years looking for one when I lived in South Africa but couldn't find one and am now looking for one here in Portugal.
Wish I'd known you were selling that one....... I'd probably have even be prepared to go through the import hassles to get a good 'un.

I guess they do. The generally accepted criteria is if it's over 25 years old, it's a classic.
My own is 30 years old and to cut a long story short is now about to become exempt from road tax and insurance is E45 a year........ that's for a 5.9 litre V8.
I haven't lived in the UK for donkey's years but don't they have some kind of rule that if it's over a certain age, you don't pay tax on it?
Is it called something like SOAN or SOAM or something?

It was but the lightning always looked cluttered to me or perhaps the shadow just looked cleaner. Both are lovely though.
I saw pics/drawings of the Egli but nothing more I'm afraid.
Another of my favourites was the BSA 650 Rocket Gold Star. I owned one back in the 70s and have regretted selling it from the day I watched the guy riding it away. :(
Mind you, it was a burger to ride in traffic because it had the IoM RRT2 gearbox and you had to slip the clutch up to about 30 mph! LOL

I can't & don't want to do the spanner work/restorations I used to do nowadays because of arthritis in my hands but do love to own/drive/ride them still.

I personally prefer the Shadow to the Lightning but used to know a guy who owned a VBL & once had the pleasure of sitting on it........ he wouldn't let me ride it though. LOL
Have to say my first choice would be a Brough Superior!

Arrrrgh. The big old Kawas & Bonnies are some of my favourite bikes.
I have an 82 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, HAD a 1982 Honda CB900F until I left RSA & am now looking for a Z900 here in Portugal.

I've had several on various vehicles and Warn tend to be about the best....... not the cheapest but they are helluva good.
You might like to look at www.allmakes4x4.com who have no end of really great LR kit at very good prices.

The high prices are all about the import taxes they charge here........ and would you believe the taxes are in contravention of EU law. Every year the EU fine Portugal for charging the extra taxes but it's cheaper for them to pay the fines than it is to comply with EU regulation...... which just goes to show you that when the various UK Govts over they years tell us they have to do this or that because of the EU, it's just BS!
The upside is they allow new immigrants to bring in one car tax free within the first 6 months of arrival. When I lived in South Africa, my old classic Jeep was worth about E4500 but now it's here, it's worth something like E30000.
Importing and paying the taxes etc on a car is a lot of hassle because they make the registration changeover complicated but it's not impossible..... However, it's really only worth doing if the car is LHD.
The other thing that surprised me here is that car dealers have to offer a 12 month warranty on every car they sell.

She looks like a good old truck but you have nooooooo idea how lucky you are to be able to buy vehicles like that at such a good price.
Here in Portugal that same vehicle (even with the steering wheel on the wrong side) would cost something like 3 or 4 times the price you mentioned!
I had to pay E3750 for a 2000 Renault Megane with 140K on the clock this time last year! :(

Blimey. Reading some of these posts makes me realise how lucky I was!
One piece of advice I'd (further) offer is try to be your own boss.
Working for yourself is hard in some ways and the responsibilities usually mean you can't just walk away at the end of your shift but the upside is you don't have to put up with some moron giving you BS all the time.
And hey, if all else fails, you can always buy my book and become a Professional Hunter in Africa......... It won't make you rich but you'll have a heck of a lot of fun!

The Cruisers are indeed very popular in Africa nowadays but they've never had character & the newest ones IMO have too much technology like central locking & electric windows on 'em.
I don't think they're quite as capable off road in some ways as the Landy but character or not they do simply work......... I've crossed rivers with water well over the bonnet on many occasions & they don't even cough let alone stop.

You can say that about any modern car though.
I've gotta say I never had a moments trouble with either of the conversions I had on my Range Rovers but they were good quality kits and they were fitted by professionals.

I reckon golf is a waste of a good walk...... we lived on what's called a secure golf estate when we were in RSA....... we lived there for about 12 years and the only time I set foot on the course was once when I took my neighbour's 2 sons out to keep them entertained.
The good thing about living there was the security which is always a massive concern in RSA.

What's the best make of kit to fit to an AMC 360 5.9 litre V8 engine with an Edelbrock carb and can you give me an idea of the approximate price to supply and fit such a kit in the UK please?
Come to that can it be fitted to a carb or is a fuel injection system necessary?

Spares are a bit of a PITA but that's got a bit easier now the truck & I are in Portugal rather than in Africa.
Other than the fuel consumption, she's also a very practical vehicle as well...... I used to take her up to Botswana at least once a year and she even coped with the virtually non-existent roads they have up there without any problems whatsoever.

LPG systems start on petrol and then automatically switch over to gas and when the gas runs out, automatically switches over to petrol again so in that respect, all LPG vehicles are dual fuel but I don't think they can actually start on gas.

I'm a great fan of LPG but unfortunately part of the exemption requirements is that I keep it on the original fuel so unless I can find a way over that, it'll have to remain as it is.
Glad you like the truck.......... I've had her for 10 years & she came with me to Portugal when we left South Africa & I love her immensely.
