  1. Try Corinium rifle range. I think its around Kemble airfield area. they have a 100meter full bore range. Cheers adrian
  2. Hi 69Chris, as it was a relatively small piece of land I went for the .22 rimfire. I only want it for rabbit control. Wilts FEO was very easy to deal with. Cheers Adrian
  3. After eight long weeks it's finally arrived !!! Firearms Certificate granted. 'Happy Days'. Adrian
  4. Hello Dave, I go beating on that shoot. It's good fun and there's some nice people there. Also nice to have a day off in the week (which is always better than working). I'm part of a syndicate in the next valley over and we buy our wheat from Pete and Ian. If your there this coming season I'll make sure to introduce myself. I think the first day is the 28th October. Cheers Adrian
  5. Hi Dave, if I'm right I believe that's Ian's son ? If so he is a cracking lad and as you say mad keen on anything shooting related. He even had his own pen to look after last year !! I think we may of met at the first shoot of the season last year. Cheers Adrian
  6. Head out of Chippenham towards the M4, turn left at the Plough and go through Kingston St Michael village. just before the motorway turn in on the right. the sign says M4 practice tracks. John and Dave run a clay shoot there every other Saturday. starts at 1pm. Hope this helps Adrian
  7. Thanks again Colin. Matt thanks for the offer! I have managed to get some locally now. cheers Adrian
  8. Thanks Colin, somebody's telling me £4.20 and I thought that was a bit steep !
  9. Hi All, would there still be a chance of getting any poults and if so would you know the going rate please. Thanks Adrian
  10. Sorry one more question. when the land is vetted by the FEO am I to be there as well to explain how I see it ?? Thanks
  11. All , many thanks for all the replies. I think I will ask for .22 rimfire and hope to get it. Failing that FAC Air. So my last question ( for now ) is Should I just put .22 RF on the application and let the FEO suggest .22 Air. or do I put both on the form from the beginning. Thanks in advance. Adrian
  12. in my opinion I believe it is suitable. the ground is used for horses and the lady who owns it is worried that the rabbits ( of which there is a good head count) are burrowing and that her precious horse might put it's leg down the rabbit hole and do some damage. in total she has around 75 acres. there is a footpath along one part of the land but shooting would be away from that and not towards it. the neighbouring ground has elevation so there is a suitable backstop. But what do I know ! so if the FEO doesn't agree with me what happens next? Has anyone had the experience of being turned down and if so what happens ? any help / advise would be appreciated cheers Adrian
  13. Thanks Lucky, if only it were that easy. I've been trying to find somewhere to get permission for nearly 18 months. Finally got a sniff and think I will apply and if it's not granted at least I've had a go. waiting this long for an opportunity has been painful. finding a back up seems damn nigh impossible. cheers Adrian
  14. Hi all, like so many others I'm looking at gaining my FAC. Here's my question, when I've sent in my application and the land I've asked for clearance on doesn't for whatever reason meet the criteria. what happens then? do I lose my fee? do I get time to try and find somewhere else? Thanks Adrian
  15. Hi Wiltsmark, thanks for your quick reply. I've had a look but I don't think this is the one. The post code is different and it looks a bit more of a corporate events type of thing rather than a general shooting ground. I'll pop over later on today and see if I can find it. thanks for your help. Adrian
  16. Hi All, has anyone got any information on Farleigh wood clay shoot. It's at Farleigh Hungerford on the wilts/ somerset border, near the castle. any info would be much appreciated. Cheers Adrian
  17. Hi, yes you have to use Mendips cartridges. Haven't been for a while but I seem to remember that the most cost effective way to shoot there as a non member was for three people to shoot 80 clays each and split a 250 slab of cartridges. Hope this helps Adrian
  18. Brains SA for me! SA short for Skull Attack.
  19. Hi,SAFC1973 yes it is Greenfields and yes they do offer a 1 year warranty on 2nd hand guns. Great shop the staff are very helpful and know what their talking about unlike some others local to me. I went for the outlander in the end and have been out with it most of yesterday pigeon shooting and am taking it clay shooting today! so far it's performing as it should. I put through some 34g high pheasant and a few JK6s I had left over and today will try a 28g clay load. Cheers
  20. Hi HDAV, yes I have used before but only for short periods. I'm going to have a look round a shop tomorrow which lets you use a demo gun on the nearby shooting range. I think i'll take your advise and try a few out. Thanks for your help.
  21. Hi all, after a probationary 'we'll see how it goes' period I've now been given full permission on a local farm. Yippee!! I want a semi auto for pigeon and crow shooting as I don't want to continue to use my O/U game gun. Now here's the dilemma. In my local gun shop there is a choice of a brand new Beretta Outlander or for a few pounds less there is a used Benelli Montefeltro. The Benelli when new would have been more expensive so....... is it better to have a used gun that was initially more expensive or a new one with a warranty. ( the used one is in very good condition and has only had light use by the look of it.) I'm only interest in one or the other but which one .....advise please. Thanks Adrian
  22. Thanks for your feedback guys.
  23. Hi All, I have inherited a John Blanch and Son leather gun case. I've had a look on their website and by the makers label and address inside the lid I can tell it was made between 1834 and 1880. It is tatty and one of the leather straps is broken plus there is no key for the lock. It's a nice thing to have but would anyone know if it has any value?? any help appreciated Adrian
  24. Hi Grayson, Try looking up 'team pursuits'. The guy in charge is called Pete and runs his business from there. They have archery, air rifle range, quad biking etc. there is also a club house where you can get food drinks and cartridges. It starts at ten and is fortnightly. if you cant find any info the location is to drive through Lacock past the abbey and over the single file bridge. Forest road/lane is on the right. drive down the lane for a few minutes and you will see a sign for owl lodge on the left. You then drive through a farm yard and on to the lodge. Hope this helps. How was the valley? Adrian
  25. Hi Grayson, are you sure it's today? I shoot at Lacock today and the two have been on alternating weekends! I would check first and if its not on try Lacock. Owl lodge just off forest lane. £12 for 50 clays. Hope this helps Adrian
