  1. iv decided to just have a variation for the semi auto for a .17hmr on the paperwork the reason i have put for the rifle is vermin and any other lawful quarry which is what i have down for the.22 and for the sound moderator i put the reason down for health and safety does that sound about right?> for the ammunition iv put max to possess 600 which is the same as the .223 or shoul i put more down as i have 1250 for .22??? cheers
  2. having second thoughts now want to buy a new tool but unsue as to go .223 or .17hmr i want to go out more on foot and try and get in to the swing of stalking a few rabbits and maybe the odd fox and thought the .17hmr would be the ideal next step up from my .22lr but i dont know whether to just go straight up to the centre fire and pick longer shots off with that and have a rifle ithat will fulfill its purpose for foxing what do you think?
  3. i understand where you are coming from now the feo came round to inspect my cabinet the other day as i have moved house and i mentioned it and he said the calibre would probably just be added on as it is smaller than the largest calibre i have a slot for i thought paying the £26 just made more sense as the .22 semi auto was originally put on by the FEO for if i decided i wanted to sell the first .22 i bought and instead of waiting for a variation before getting a new one i would have a slot i can just go and fill id say i will get a .223 at some point before my ticket runs out but on one of my current permissions the farmer does not want the foxes touching and i dont get over to my other permission enough at this moment in time to warrant buying a .223 just for foxes what you recommend then is that im best to perhaps have the .22 semi auto swapped for a .17hmr instead of adding another slot? im sure if there is the need il be able to add another one in future when my slots are all filled is this correct? iv had my license a couple of years now cheers
  4. yes i could one for one the semi-auto but rather than loose a slot that i may need i thought it would make more sense to add the .17hmr as opposed to swapping it what awkward questions may i be asked? cheers
  5. hi all i have on my license .22lr, .22lr semi-auto and .223 calibres but im looking to add a .17hmr for in between i actually only currently own a .22rf but do not want to do a one for one variation as i will no boubt be wanting a .223 further down the line if the .17hmr does not do what i need anyhow im filling in the paperwork and just want to confirm what im putting diwn uis right in details of fire arm to be required i w need to put calibre .17hmr type bolt action riflr or just rifle or reason vermin? where do i put down about the moderator to? how much ammo should i be requesting also? cheers
  6. i might give it a go then iv always shot the rabbits at night time and never really tried in the day might be an idea to perhaps give that a go then to in all fairness though on the permission i go to most regularly there just seems to be next to no rabbits there at all and im always trying to find new permissions but i find farmers tend to be reluctant to let you shoot the land with a rifle whereas they welcome shooting the pigeons i have permission on nearly 1500 acres and i can only shoot with my rifle on about 500 of it of which i can only cover perhaps 250 or less in 4x4
  7. just curious really as to how many people shoot rabbits etc out of a car window and how many on foot or who does both and what do you find better? may sound very backwards but iv never shot rabbits on foot and have always done it on a 4x4 as i have always been told you will never get anywhere near a rabbit on foot but in a car you can easily get up within shooting distance the only reason i could see shooting being a problem for me is that i always goin at night and usually always lamp and need the cigarette power socket for it but in all fairness there is no reason why i couldnt go on foot as i have a scope mounted lamp now to haha suppose my real question is is it even worth going on foot or shal i just stay in the warmth of the 4x4 haha???
  8. Hopeless lol dont know why i bothered
  9. Im off out now to where the spuds hve just been harvested and hopefully get something before the wind picks up to much Or il look for a flightline and try and sit under it...got a flask so im gonna go for it!
  10. thats a joke...who is the actual FEO at the minute then or has one not been appointed? i spoke to the admin team the other day and they said some of the other FEO's had been giving training to other police staff in order to try and get the back log under control, how true or effective this has been though is another matter all my paperwork is in order but im just waiting for a call and interview from the FEO...iv been waiting nearly 9 weeks now to surely a variation is just a paperwork variation though isnt it? or does it also require a visit from the FEO to confirm the details? cheers thankyou for all the welcomes to!
  11. thankyou! has anyone out of interest had any dealings with said police force and have any idea what the current waiting times are? its quite frustrating counting 4 then 5 then 6 weeks etc etc and have no honest answers iother than we are busy at the minute and that the FEO will get round to seeing youat some point not what i want to be hearing haha
  12. fternoon all! currently waiting for my coterminous firearms and shot gun license! thought id join up to get peoples and opinions on everything before i settle down to purchase anything my uncle has been shooting for over 30 years and i enjoy going with him so after gettin permission to shoot on the same land as him i thought it would be a good hobby to take up! iv put a deposit on a cz452 to start with and will look for a good fitting shotgun when i get my license granted its currently been over 6 weeks in the waiting and still no call from the FEO so if anyone has any ideas of time scale for this to happen in the coventry/solihull area it would be interesting to note or has anyone recently dealt with west midlands police and my area in particular?! cheers
