Very much the way things have gone round here over the last ten years or so too. Farms that have been in a family for centuries are now often sold on :-(
That is such a sad state of affairs......seems like the farmers are finding harder each year!!

Hi mate. I've been looking at football nets/sacks. Dirt cheap off eBay and there big enough to carry all the decoys, netting and everything else
That may well be the way to go on that front.....nice idea!

Typical!!! Just had a look at that but I have everything apart from the bag now!! Finding that hard as need something big enough to carry my decoys flappers etc......any ideas?7

I've collated some information from some fellow shooters, Keepers and Farmers in Glos, Wilts, Oxon, Berks and parts of Devon and the general consensus is that numbers are definitely down.
Alarmingly Lots of reports of birds reported dead in the woods, could be Acorn poisoning, and some reports of some with trichonomiosis. I have seen dead birds locally with this and they would probably have caught it visiting dirty bird tables.
Also bags that are being shot have much fewer young birds than other years so perhaps the breeding has taken a knock back too. I even took a visit to one of my roost woods yesterday late afternoon, which is an established winter roost for 100,s of birds and has been since I started shooting in 1972......absolutely nothing !!!
There seems to be plenty of individual birds around these parts but they don't seem to be venturing far from human habitation and I and others think the last two winters have seriously knocked numbers back.
Not cause for concern for the Farmers though as I suspect they are happy as Larry. I'll just have to keep the guns cabined for a few weeks longer and check my supply of lob worms ready for the Big Perch sessions after Xmas.OH
Loving the idea of getting a few big Perch out, Ive already bagged a couple of 3lb ers!!

OK That's seems to be pretty unanimous.......No 3/4 choke for me......im decoying pigeons (should have probably made that clear) will this make any difference?

Hi guys, not sure if i'm in the right area or not. Im very new to the sport and this site. I've just purchased my very first gun which is a Franchi raptor 720 which came with a full & half choke. I have been informed by my dad's shooting buddies that it's worth me purchasing a 3/4 choke to cover most scenarios. Can someone let me know where the best place to get this from ie direct from manufacturer, gunshop, online etc.....Many thanks in advance, Harry.

The Swedish gear is made by Saab and IMO the best out there.
This all very good advice and im chuffed to bits that so many of you guys have taken the time to point me in the right direction....just one last question though....where can I get some of the swedish nets from??
-
I was using Ghost stealth net but it was still a bit too transparent for my liking..stuff inside the hide like seat bags etc still easily visible.
So I got some Swedish Army Camo from a local military store, and the combination of the two, layered, is pretty darn perfect.
Any reason you purchased it from a Swedish army supplies?? Are they better?

Any specific one??

Hi everyone, Im very new to the sport and I'm slowly building up my equipment after purchasing my gun, seat and clothing. Next on the list is a decent hide net and poles. With so many on the market and my limited knowledge I was hoping that you guys could at the very least point me in the right direction. Budget wise im willing to spend what needs to be spent in order to get something that will do the job and last rather than going for the cheapest only to find it falls apart and is not up for the job. Many thanks in advance.

Small flocks of 30-40 around the shorter rape fields.....this really is the first small sign we've seen at our permission in Royston in weeks, this time last year there was plenty to go at but all this rain and milder weather has killed it for December and early Jan, here's hoping for some colder days/nights soon!
