  1. I'm looking to purchase a pump as a rough gun that I will never sell again, I would like it to be multi choke and have as short barel as possible for ease of use in tight spaces (not sure what the minimum barel size is!if someone could clear that up for me?)

    What do people recommend?

  2. Got myself a Vortex crossfire!

Very very nice scope for £170, compared it to my friends zeiss that costs 4x as much and it was definitely not 4x worse!

Very clear both fully zoomed and not zoomed with easy to use turrets and very nice finish it is the best scope for that price range by far!

The warrant also covers you if you drop it etc for life too! Which IMO is amazing for this day and age!

  3. After a lot more looking it is going to be between the MTC viper, MTC mamba (both in 4x16-50) or the Vortex crossfire ii (4x16-44).

Now I'm getting very very good reviews on all of them but the problem I will have is I cannot look through both at the same time :S

  4. So I have just purchased a brand new CZ455 chambered in .17HMR and I'm looking for a scope to go with it, I have roughly £200 to spend give or take a bit and I'm looking for it to have about 6x18 worth of mag.

I am looking at a vortex crossfire ii 6x18-44 ATM as they seem to be a great price for then quality but I'm just wondering if there are any competitions available for the same price range?

  5. The Saks will burn through after time on a HMR, I replaced mine with an ASEutra, twice the price of the Sak but its been on now for over 9 years, Its strip able, not too heavy and reasonably priced.

Incidentally while out lamping one night I took a a shot at a rabbit with my HMR that was probably around 90yds away ish. I missed, the Rabbit ran towards my position in a zig zag It stopped around 1/2 way, I took another shot, and yes I missed again. Yet again the rabbit ran straight towards me, It was not only about 3 yards from the mod, (my Ase Utra ) It stopped again, And no I didnt miss that time, but I can tell you my heart was trying to get out :lol:

Sparkie was with me at the time and he was bricking it, He thought the bunny was going to eat him.

So the story is,, what you hear at your end is not what is heard the other end :)

The one thing I found with the ASEutra is it's pretty heavy especially compared to the swift precision mods!

  6. I'm gonna do mine this year, turn 24 this year so gonna do my DAS, I feel doing it slow time and being comfortable is important with riding a bike so I think it will take me roughly 3-4 months I think.

Done my theory the other week so that's stupid part done lol (some of the questions are rediculous!)

  7. What's the reason behind using steel for the pigeons?

For the clays I just use whatever the cheapest 70mm 28gram #7.5 carts I can find or load them myself. For crows some people will use the same clay carts but my shooting/fieldcraft doesn't allow for clean kills with those so I use 32 gram #5 or #6. No idea about foxes and it depends on what "Wildfowl" you'll be shooting.

If you do a search on here you find more useful information, it's all been asked before.

Local game dealer will collect only steel shot pigeons.

and thank you for that I will take a look around.

  8. Hello everyone,

I have recently just got into shooting and I'm on the lookout for cartridges that will work well in my new Winchester select sporting II which I'm 99.9% sure has 3 inch cambers and is steel proof (I pick the gun up next weekend).

I will be shooting a fair variety of things but I have broken them down into 4 sections that I would use different cartridges for:

Clays, small vermin (crows/rabbits), fox and a steel shot for pigeon and wildfowing.

It would be great help if someone using the same/similar gun could let me know what they use for the above shooting situations.

    Thanks again

  9. IMHO I would go second hand with a better quality gun. Keep searching the classifieds one will come up. But if you are determined to get one of the list, then I would go for the baikal. I have had mine for twenty years and the Sears have only just started playing up. That said I prefer shooting the beretta semi. Good luck hope it works out

I have got a Winchester select sporting II 2nd hand instead, it was worth the extra money over these in the list.

I will prob get a cheap pump or the armsan for when it's wet.

  10. There's a company on here that picks up across the whole of the UK.

I think they want steel shot pigeons and rifle shot rabbits.

Would it be suitable for me to skin them and freeze them straight away to accumulate the required amount over time? Or would they want it all super fresh and shot the night before?
