  1. just look at the reviews on here about the a612,you wont regret buying one and for a lot less than £500 as well.

Ye I have been looking at the 612 for a long time and they feel better than most also, I think it would be a good starter/ future rough gun tbh

Which one of the 612 variant though?

I like the look of the wood but the synthetic makes sense for rough shooting :S I also likes the feel of the 612S!

  2. For years now Dan I just buy cheap led torches off eBay or in the shops and hold it with the off hand and stock sits on my wrist. Last one was eight quid for a 60m beam on AAA batteries!

I did buy an expensive (for me) Deban small torch for 55 quid. It comes with scope mounts, cable and a remote switch to stick on the stock. More than enough for lr!

    U.

thats what im thinking just get a cheaper high powered LED torch and hold it or find a DIY of mounting it to the bottom of the gun.

its only going to used in small aread and around sheds etc.

  3. So I am setting up my first ever gun which is a .22LR ruger 10/22 with a simmons whitetail classic scope and i would like an "OK" lamping setup for it but its only going to be used for 80-100yards max (and even then i doubt i will be going past 50-60 years often) so I dont want to be paying much more than £50 as im saving the more expensive purchases for my larger caliber rifles.

what i would also like to know is are you able to use a high powered head/hand torch instead of a gun mounted item?

    Thanks for reading

  4. So the time has come for a new workhorse gun, after many people pointing to as many different guns I have brought it down to 6 brand new guns (wanting a gun with good warranty)

    1. Armsan 612W

    2. Armsan 612S

    3. Hatsan Escort Luxano

    4. Hatsan Escort magnum (black synthetic)

    5. Hatsan Silver Synthetic (O/U)

    6. Baikal 27-EM1 Nickel plated receiver (O/U)

Now they are all coming in around £500-ish (bar the standard escort which is about £100 cheaper), they all seem to reviewed well buy anyone that has reviewed them and after holding all of them they all seem to fit and feel pretty good also.

Now the question is what should I go for if I'm doing a mixture of shooting (rough, clays plus some wildfowling along the way).

Should I just stick with keeping it cheap and cheerful or does something stand miles above the others in this lineup?

    Anyway I await the replys.

    Thanks for reading

  5. My 1st post was supposed to be in the intro section, however spotting this thread I felt I should reply.

I know how you feel, currently serving submariner living in Portsmouth, based in Scotland originally from Warrington. I had to put my shooting on hold for a while with being away and lost land and contacts due to not being able to devote the time to a 'permission'. when I'm home its hard trying to get some odd day shooting without dropping the forces card as I have to explain the situation, I have also got the same reaction as you about thinking we should get things as we are in the forces.

My advice is just keep asking around something will turn up. I joined this website for the very reason you are asking so hopefully some one will help you out.

Quite a few navy people on here!
  6. Mk3 Renault Clio 1.4 petrol, does everything you want it to with a good size boot etc.

Toyota Yaris good car also slightly smaller

Suzuki swift also a nice car in 1.3 form.

Keep it small, petrol and non turbo engined and it will be reliable enough for small miles.

If you go for an older car go for a lupo 1.7 SDI does 200k on an engine easily and due to being diesel and non turbo it's very reliable for smaller miles unlike a turbo diesel cars but also £30 a year tax
