  1. No, sorry if that's how it reads. They have a fox issue which I will hopefully be able to deal with in 6 months (if lucky) when FAC/SGC comes through. For now I'm restricted to the legal quarry of sub 12ft lb air rifles so pigeons, rats and odd rabbit if conditions permit.

  2. The owner is pushing the health and safety point also as there are consistently 3 or more pigeons in the training shed(old milking barn) which can spook some horses when giving lessons to children and she's worried about an accident when spooked. They are elsewhere in food stores etc but the first is her main concern. I think this justifys their removal.

  3. Nothing really worrying me will just be my first perm as only done target before. Not a big perm which is ideal as a first. Mainly pigeons in barns and poss the odd rabit and fox later. It's equestrian farm and it's the owner I am dealing with. Any tips much appreciated.

  4. Hi PW knowledge base

I am looking for a little clarification. Do I require anything other then land owners permission to use sub 12ft lb air rifle for pigeon, rat removal etc. I have basc membership/cover etc.

  5. You could take a different view of this situation and go along the lines of if she is not permitted to know where the keys are due to not being authorised then maybe she also should not know what you have and where for a higher level of security. "Need to know basis" type of thing. Just a different way of looking glass half full kinda thing.

  6. I myself am quite keen on law as a subject and knowing my rights. We need to remember that the HO guidance is just that and has no more legal standing than advice on this forum. The chief of police cannot further restrict or imply law that is not established in the act.

One ax ample of this would be the section 11(4) exemption from needing an FAC to own or posses a miniature rifle for use on a miniature rifle range (further details/requirements involved). The act States upto .23 calibre yet HO guidance States this is considered .22 rimfire. From a legal point the HO guidance is not in itself lawfully defining what is permitted but implying a further restriction which it cannot do.

  7. I too am in a similar situation and only now getting back into it because my son has taken an interest in air rifle shooting. The wife has no interest in shooting and never liked the idea of guns in the house. She is slowly coming round and has said she will pay for my application for my birthday next week. So it's all about baby steps at the min. I have found a .22lr Cz I want as soon as my cert comes and can't wait.

  8. I'm just in the process of applying for my certs too. I have visited about 7 gun shops in my area before finding one which has the right attitude consistently and reliable to do what they say when they say. I travel about 30 miles to this shop and they always have time for me when I visit and a very good range of guns and accessories(in comparison to the others visited). Shops closer seemed to either lack knowledge, be rude when visiting, not understand that someone could be interested in a gun they don't want personally, not call you back when they say, and the worst was ordering an air rifle for my son to use for Xmas in early November to be told 5 days before Xmas he can't actually get it in time. I'm not going to mention the names of the shops as I feel that unfair and just my experience except the one I do use and would highly recommend as it was to me being Forest Lodge guns in Wragby. I do think it's worth shopping round and building a relationship with your shop as they will be your knowledge base and after care.
