I would consider a swap for cartridges (12g), 22LR, 17HMR or .223 rounds and maybe other shooting bits if you can collect - the dog guard needs to get gone so I can stop tripping over it!

I did mine about 3 years ago - day of tuition the day before test was about £350 and then the test itself was about £120 if my memory is working right. Just had to get it done, the tuition was worth it just so I knew what to expect on the test and so I could use the instructors car and trailer (if I had used my own it would have only got me an automatic gearbox version of the licence).
