  1. The smallest you can load on a loadall is 70mm tried loading 67mm and it dont crimp them quite right

Could you not just raise the carts up a bit with a little circle of wood or the like underneath? (sorry if this is ludecrous as I know nothing about reloading and can only picutre that bringing the cark closer to the drill press like thing might help with the leverage/ crimping issue)

  2. So I have had it in the back of my mind for a while that it would be nice to get into reloading, but have really been looking for somone who is giving up of the like so I can get a full set up for a reasonable price. So I thaught I would ask PW for advice :)

So I have seen this for sale and have no idea if this will be ok, ie. if it will be up to date, data avalable ect. and also if it is a good price?! (I have abosulutly no idea, but looks like it could get me started)

So the ad is as follows:

"Redding loader old model but ok ,20kgs shot mainly 6,s 2,000 primers, qty 1oz plswads tin nobel 82 2x1/2 tins 82 1/2 tin vectan qty capped cases all 12 bore also approx 125 no 4 shot express steel selling for old mate who has stopped £200 ono"

I have sent them a message asking for photos and will post as and when they arrive.

So guys is this a good idea, and if so would i need anything else to get me started?

(I have a sack full of my once fired carts)

    Many Thanks,

    James

  3. There is a black powder replacement powder I believe that is a little kinder to the bores! If the pitting is slight! A chamber brush on a shaft in a cordless drill may clean it up no end! Would love something like this to fall,on my lap! Hope it brings a huge smile to your face!

Have you got any idea what thats called? and if you need an aquire and kee to get it.

As I only have an aquire but would like to give hunting a go with my musket...

    Cheers, J

  4.

Trains can be a sticky issue, by purchasing a ticket you are agreeing to conditions, guns on trains are frequently prohibited not by law (if in a sealed slip/bag etc) but by the train operating company rules.

Thanks, did not think of that, but in speaking to FEO I was double checking law and as far as I could see the train operator had no problem as tha staff I spoke to where shooters and where more than amicable. With hindsight the worst that they could have done is asked me to get off the train... a pain in the **** but not the end of the world!

Swat team should have taken him out near the bakery section.

    Very funny!

  5. FAC and his legality is just assuming.... However, shopping with a gun on his back...? I don't think there's any justifiable 'good reason' to have a firearm (air rifle) in a supermarket - end of! It should have been taken home first or locked in the boot of his car - preferably within his sight. That bloke is an out and out idiot and exactly the sort of person the shooting community can do without.

Oh, and we shoot across footpaths all the time. The footpath across a farm is a usually a right of access not public property, so just access your risks before shooting. The info is out there with regard to legal activities and impeding the progress of footpath users etc and should be common knowledge of any shooter. Make sure you know the law, because if you are ever challenged you cannot rely on the average bobby or bobble-hat to know it verbatim.

I agree with your point about assumption, buts that’s where it stops.

Firstly despite recommending a shooter knowing the intricacies of gun law. It really should not be incumbent upon shooters because of the misconceptions of the public at large and ineptitude of our police force to know the law.

Further to this, and onto my main point if its in the slip take it to church for all I care. Your being hypocritical, you are making an assumption that he did not have good reason to have it there (again not that this is required). 'Perhaps' he waked to and from his shooting permission and wanted a drink on the way home...

Sorry if this is a long story but I feel it provides sufficient evidence to support my argument. I was traveling not too long ago and the quickest and easiest way to get there was by train, but planned on shooting whilst there (visiting family). As such gave my FEO a ring and he said no problem as long as in slip. Had a nice chat on my home platform with the conductor (who I now know shoots)... So through London and on the tube I trotted. Gave a smile to the armed police in Kings X (who smiled back). And was asked in M & S whilst buying a packet of crisps and drink waiting for a train if 'that' was a gun, to which I responded yes [in my eyes it would have been far more irresponsible and suspicious to say no]. And as a results got to shoot with my family and spoke to several fellow shooters en route who stuck up conversations with me (knowing what my gun bag was).

So In reality as far as I am concerned he had every right to be shopping with his gun and to state what it was.

  6. Egg-heads given food for thought, bon-appetit!

The above link is telling porkies

    This is for you.

    http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Parasitic_diseases/tapeworm.htm

Thanks I had already read the lower one and am sure one could become a hoast but just take some pills if you noticed anything.

I know my grandfater got a tapeworm when posted in Somalia (not sure what type) but even back then it was a simple take a pill for a few days...

    Cheers, J

  7. I know that they are somewht conservative with there use before dates on issue food... that is pushing it a bit though!

But as above if you have the stomach for it and it smells/ looks ok why not... Hell I now realise that there is a good chance I ate tapeworm infested Rabbit thisevening!

  8. Mmm after doing a little more recearch I am fairly sure that it is a tapeworm cyst.

I am not sure weather to chuck the rest of the rabbit or not and just check it thoroughley (and stew it)... reading up on it rarley shows any signs beyond the cysts (and if there not there it dosent mean its not infected with an egg or two).

More to the point, do I just keep an eye on my poop for little white riggaly things? (if thats indeed how one would spot it)

Any more opinyons/ advice on the matter would be gratly apreceated.

  9. I decided last night that I would have Rabbit Burgers at some point today.

So I took three rabbit legs out of the freezer and put them in salt water to defrost over night.

This morning I proceded to cut the meat off the bone and within the muscle of one of the legs there was what lloked like a spotty white sack.

I poped said sack (rouhghley the size of the end of ones thum) and out came a frog spawn like clear goo suspended in which was little white dots (I presume eggs of some kind).

So I chucked this leg and made my burgers with the other two... which I have now eaten.

So my question is what was it? (My guess would be some kind of tapeworm eggs?)

And should I chuck the rest of my Rabbit as I joint it before freezing I have no Idea which meat corosponds to which Rabbit (and there is only about half a freezer draw full at the moment)

    Many Thanks,

    James

  10. Pumpaholic again!

Bought a Squires and Bingham Mod 30 sleeper. After very deep clean it came up a treat. 24" 729 cylinder bore bright and no pitting. Its interesting as it has spring assisted opening and is very slick with one action bar. It has no loading gate (like Mossberg) cross bolt safety like Ithaca, Remington. A nice cheapie which seems very usable. the collection grows............... PS did anyone notice this thread has passed 100000 views! The pasty (OP)should be congratulated!

mmm, I am even more bummed about missing this after reading your above great post!

This would have been perfect for the bunnies as intended, make sure it leaves the cabinbet :)

    Great write up.

    Many Thanks,

    James

  11. OK thanks mate. I am in north Wales at the moment, and somehow had the preasance of mind to take my cert with me! (although I dont know if you can see from my profile I live in Cambridge).

I shall be returning in a couple of weeks so will check back on this thread then and see if they have gone then.

    Many Thanks,

    James

  12. Hi David, thank you for getting onto this, but i fear that the problem is that many new shooters or those who are not confident with the system do not want to kick up a fuss (scared of impact upon aplication) and so do not.

I understand fully your point, which is why its so important the shooters alert us to any examples of bad practice so we can address it.

Sorry David I did not mean for you to see this last night, but was asking if there was any way of 'tagging' you in the post to bring it to your attention.

Thanks again for all of your help.

On it - if you need to get in touch with me or bring something to my attention then the best way is by email. I don't get on forums 24/7 but do keep an eye on emails from around 7am to 10pm

    David

    Thanks Again,

    James

  13. At Barton road MOD range just outside Cambridge, there's a public footpath which runs right through it and you need two people to man sentrys either side to stop the public from wandering infront of the guns!

I've never had a stroppy encounter when doing sentry, but i know some have.

ps.This was where the firing range scenes from 'Full Metal Jacket' were filmed.

Im from Comberton, and go out with the Trinity at the end of the range!

    I can well belive it...

  14. I know its not a multi tool, but if you are looking for a (no excuse needed) 'uk legal' blade this is the best I have got:

    http://sportingcutlery.co.uk/b260.html

I have re finished the handle as the varnish/ genral finish was not perfect (but not bad). Also ground off a coupple of mill at the base to be sure its under 3in.

But for the cheap price and the fantasic quality of the steel which holds a fantastic edge its great.

When im using it i honestly forget that its not a sheath knife its soo secure and gives you soo much edge to work with.
