  1. I have found a chap breeding labs in Wigan area going under Inceley Labs and although he has sold a lot of them I just cant seem to find out much about them. I realise not everyone has websites but as someone who sells on the usual dog channels I thought Id be able to find out a lot more.

Has anyone had any dealings or knowledge of this place?

Or even a recommendation of a trusted breeder of working labs. I am in the market for a bitch (because my rottie dog is territorial and another male might not go down too well). Would prefer either a chocolate or black. Im prepared to travel but would prefer to be Lancashire or similar.

  2. on another level , if i owned a farm and had trouble with birds.A BASC member came along and shot my land and left all his empties and 50 breasted pigeons in the hedge row , would he be removed from offers in future ??

If it is monitored, I would hope that once a shooter is allocated to an area, the landowner would take your basc number and if found unsuitable then that number could be blocked from that particular place in future with probably a 3 strikes and you're off the register for a period of time coming into play?

Which other organisations are offering this?

Id assume he means things like NPPC etc?

Although I am a FAC and SGC holder, I also have very limited places to shoot and if I could get some more shooting in because of a scheme like this then I also would welcome it. I value my shooting time and consider it a privilege to be able to shoot on other grounds so much so that I would take the utmost care not to upset the applecart and I guess there are many others out there with the same attitude.

Now then... where do I sign!!! :whistling:

Edited to remove rubbish my text duplicating fat fingers decided to put in there!

  3. Well done on the shoot and even better for managing to find a sunny day to do it on but then again I guess 2 hours plodding through mud in chest waders with all the gear and the birds must have been a sweaty old job :good:

Nice looking dog too! How do you find the patience of the spaniel when you're sitting in a hide? Im in the market for a gundog for both rough shooting and fowling and everyone tells me a spaniel isnt worth the bother and i should go for a lab but I do like a springer!

  4. I was lucky enough to find a nice chap to take me out on the marsh the other day to accompany him whilst he shot some fowl. Ordinarily I may have been bored just sitting there in a stinky waterlogged marsh gulley and chatting to someone I had never met before whilst he shot and I didnt however instead the time passed so quickly and I learned so much in just a few hours. OK, the quarry was mainly wigeon but I learned what to look out for to have a good chance of a decent bag and also how to decoy them in without decoys and only using pieces of paper! Cant wait to get my guest ticket to have a "shot" at it myself now and hopefully get my name down on the waiting list if Im lucky enough to get the sponsorship I need to join from the chap that took me out. If you're reading this then you know who you are!

Not only that but I took a brace of wigeon home with me which I breasted and scoffed tonight after soaking it in salt water for 2 days in the fridge. Pan fried for 3 mins a side like a good steak and lightly peppered.... mmmmmm!

I can see how it can be so addictive even in poor weather! Out on the marsh alone or with a friend waiting for the silhouette of a duck to pass by and then if you're lucky enough to get them in close enough, taking the shot, watching the bird fold and plummet to earth and then later on preparing it for the table with a hearty meal in mind!

    Cant wait until next time!

    Keith

  5.

Sorry did not realise he only wanted to shoot REGISTERED, he did not state that.

From the events shown on the calender via that link to their site it only shows one Sunday open per month which is the 100 bird registered day. All the others seem to be Wednesday only and the OP says "to go do some clays one weekend"

  6. Call for mr pair

    What about a visla ?

A cocker or a springer would be good to its down to choice and what you want to do , spaniels are great for flushing tho ......

    Mr Pair

Or there is the choice of a x breed and grabbing a springador.... or, I could just leave all the dog work to you :whistling: haha

  7. Truth be known I need both however I can only have one.

Ideal world Id have 2 but with a rottie & 2 horses id have to stop shooting to have time to look after them all :)

I have a pal with a lab and we shoot together a bit and the flushing/hunting strengths of a spaniel but still with a half decent retrieve will fit in better. Plus if I do get any spare time I could train it further beating on other shoots.

  8. ESS seem to be a little bigger which I guess may make them a stronger swimmer plus they should be able to carry bigger birds back easier... Cocker and ESS seem to be the main 2 spaniels to go for and looking for a first gundog, making the choice is overwhelming. The ESS also seem to be a little cheaper on the pocket too.

  9. I think an ESS is probably the way forward then. Been looking about and am surprised you can pay the same for a non kc bitch as you can a kc reg one. Also seen an odd part trained one at not much more than a pup too but that sold fast.

I'm on the lookout for one that's had everything done like tail docked, dew claws removed, chipped etc etc.. Must be a bitch so as not to cause trouble with my rottie... Been looking around like I say but not seen anything that I like (and afford) that's close enough...

  10. I use a Daystate AIrwolf MVT in .22 and the beauty f that is that you can choose your desired shot velocoty in the fly thrugh its little computer because it has a chrono built into the barrell.

I can set it as a sub 12 or have it full power but I find that around the 30-40 ft/lb limit to be the most accurate. For example Ive found a bisley magnum to travel the best at about 850 fps.

The MVT set me back about £800 though!
