  1. The fact you've asked means you're unsure. That itself answers the question; you shouldn't be using a firearm for something you're not sure is safe.

Ah PW at its best! So the reason I asked is because I think it is safe. The know it all in our syndicate said it wasn't. I ballistic calculateed it to similar to someone on this thread. So by my reckoning if I shoot prone off the bipod and don't chamber a round until in position I have zero chance of hitting the houses. I know that because I cannot aim more than about thirty metres above the houses without the butt hitting the ground which my app estimates gives something like an 800 yard range. I drove past the two houses last week and saw a BASC sticker on a car in the driveway. I chapped the door to explain I would be rabbit shooting in the field to avoid any alarm. The bloke nearly cried with laughter when I said our know it all said it was unsafe!

  2. So I have a rabbit problem on a field that is as flat as a bowling green. The only spot I can shoot from is in line with two houses 1200 yards away from where I would be. Would you guys consider this a safe shot with a 17hmr? I would be shooting at a slight downward angle from a track next to the field and the rabbits are about 100 yards from the firing point.

  3. I had a similar problem a few years ago. I used a hole cutter to cut through the plaster board and insulation down to the block. I then drilled into the block and inserted threaded rod which I glued in with an adhesive I got from a builders merchants, looked like porridge and came in a sealant gun tube. I let that dry and filled the holes in the insulation with expanding foam. I then put the cabinet onto the threaded bars and used nuts and washers to secure it!

  4. So....

We have an old vitara on our shoot which we want to attach a spin feeder to the back of. I thought it ideal if we used the power from the rear wiper motor, so took it out tonight.

There were three wires going to the motor. A constant live, a switched live controlled by the swith on the indicator stalk and then another wire. Is this a neutral? The two lives only spark when touched against the car body, not this third wire.

I presume to wire the spinner we use the switched live and the either the other "neutral" wire or run the spinner neutral wire to the body of the car.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  5. Now that the gun has been Teagued things are looking better and I think I've cracked it. I'm going to try the ones that you last recommended, but I'm minded that they're going to have to go some to out-do their big brother - just need to check that a different shot size to those tried pattern the same. Just have to nip up the motorway to collect a box of each to find out. However, I can probably get the Eleys closer to home so while I'm at it I will try those as well. The pigeon have not been playing ball on the winter barley stubbles - they're all over the place - and then there's the weather which has stopped further harvesting dead so it would be unwise to express an opinion with so few birds shot, but having said that, I have a distinct impression that those Pro Game 7s are going to turn out to be something else and am keeping them for the AyA.

I'd agree with you on the pro game Wymberly. Took some to a busy rape stubble a few weeks ago. Lovely kills and so smooth compared to the Black Gold 32 gram I was using up. I actually stopped shooting and walked back to the car to offload the gamebore BG and get more pro game!

  6. Has anyone else had lots of ricochets with Hornady 17 grain red tips? Out of 30 yesterday I recon I got about 10 zinging off into the distance. When using the same number of Winchester supreme 17 grain I didn't get one. This was all on the same "range". There is about four miles of empty land all round so no worries but me got me thinking are Hornady bullets of a stronger construction?

  7. Speeding fines make no difference to your fac, just drive as usual as you know if you are well enough over the limit to be prosecuted a couple of mph isn't going to make a difference.

Yup agree. A friend has recently been caught well over 100 on his bike. Fac going through renewal and they weren't even interested. Said it would be different if drink driving though.

  8. So....

I'm in the market for a. 22 rimfire. Budget ain't really an issue but I hate spending money on things that ain't worth it. In you guys opinion is the fit, finish and trigger significantly better on an Anschutz 1416 than a CZ 455?

  10. Brilliant place. Been to Dubrovnik, Porec and Montenegro. Dubrovnik really nice. Full of top notch hotels but you pay for it. The elaphiti Islands are amazing. In Porec in stayed in a hotel which had its own island, can't remember the name but again full of excellent hotels. You can also get across to Venice from Porec for the day. Food has always been excellent as has everything else.

  11. I had a strap fixing pull out of a leather gun slip when I took it to the saddler to get it repaired they told me the stitching had rotted, I cursed and expensive slip but had them check the rest they found some other areas that she showed me. Then then asked how I looked after the slip expecting her to accuse me of neglect I defended my once a month coat of beats foot oil, she laughed and told me that would be why then.

I forget the cream she gave me to try instead but used it for years and now use ranphur once a month and on a professionals advice don't use neats foot oil on stitched leather it's not rotted since.

Fair enough. Firm evidence that. Might stop using it

  12. And best place to buy neatsfoot oil is....? ...... Stores that supply tack and equipment for stables and horse owners.

    Funny old world isn't it?

It's a conspiracy! They sell it so it rots all your leather goods within weeks then you have to go back and buy more leather goods!

  13. Think I go with saddler on this one

(Clue is in his name )

Good for leather not a finished product the thread used to sew leather is usually covered in beeswax

Just can't see why anyone would be spending money on anything other than the best product for the job

See tons of leather stuff ruined by badly applied wrong product

    Anyway each to there own

    All the best

    Of

Still no proof it does any harm... What does it do? Where's the evidence?
  14. Yes thanks, but neatsfoot oil is harmless, it's the gel version that rots stitching.

Couldn't agree more. Never had a problem and used it for years. Often hear people saying it ruins leather and rots stitching. Never seen any evidence however. I'm sure it's a myth touted by manufacturers of expensive leather treatments.

Anyone on here got any proof it causes problems?

  15. If it's a classic engine with the carb screwed direct to the petrol tank then the diaphragm sits under the carb. There are 2 bits, the gasket and the diaphragm; the diaphragm must sit on the tank.

Sometimes,it's worth replacing the whole carb. Diaphragm kit is about £6 and carb is about 14 which comes with diaphragm.

Ah right. The carb is on the side of the engine, below the air intake.
