  1. What differences have you noticed when switching cartridges?

It may be that I'm not paying enough attention to recoil or how the clay smashes but I can't say I've genuinely noticed a difference from cartridge to cartridge of the same load (obviously 21g and 28g kick differently).

I'm asking this in the 'clay shooting' section since I appreciate there are different loads that are best for game etc. I'm asking more about the performance of clay cartridges.

I've been wondering whether it's worth me paying more attention to the likes of chokes and cartridges now that I feel I'm progressing a bit, or whether it's all neither here or there.

Thanks. Joined the CPSA recently so I imagine I'll be getting involved in a few competitions and getting to see these grounds.

In that case try the monthly 100 bird at Catton (you can shoot birds only) they are also open for practice on a Wednesday - far better than Worsley

There is also Coniston (near Skipton)

Webber's ground at Astley  - close to Worsley

You don't give a location but I assume Lancs somewhere.

Yes, North West. Thanks for the recommendations mate. I do keep meaning to get to Astley and Catton Hall but not heard of the one near Skipton - always went to Kelbrook if I was in that area (I believe that's right by Skipton too).

Do you have any details on the 100 bird at Catton Hall? Can't see anything on their site.

    Thanks again :good:

  4. PW loves a debate (not necessarily a bad thing).

I think all the rational people who use Facebook should feel very indifferent about whether the police do or don't have a look at what you post. I say this because the flip side is that you either post daft/irresponsible stuff or you wrongly assume you have some level of privacy on the internet. This is simply not true, what you post on the internet is in a domain public enough for people (and certainly authorities) to access.

I've been involved in software development for some time and have encountered a ton of scenarios whereby people thought they were being anonymous and were not, for various reasons. Even on this forum, I may 'feel' anonymous with a fake name but I'm under no illusion that you can piece together the content of my posts to build a pretty detailed picture, the admins even more so (I won't say how since it's clear they'd not like to publicly disclose it which is fair do's).

I suppose my point is that it's not really up for debate whether the police CAN use this material, they even have legislation like the snooper's charter to warrant it. What's up for debate is whether they DO or they SHOULD. In my (personal) opinion, they should (why not?). In my estimation, they probably don't.

Go for a 4K one . The picture will be brilliant but the sound will be terrible .  They make these TVs so thin that they Carnt fit good speakers in them . You will need a sound bar to play the tv through to get the full sound capeability . I bought a Samsung 4K and a Samsung sound bar .  Fabulous picture and sound .

Came in to post exactly this.

If you've got a few quid to spare also consider bose.

  6. That's a **** take.

What about if you had've withdrawn it already? I thought I'd enter this thread and read about some security problem elsewhere rather than with the bank, but I am surprised. I wouldn't be happy at all if this happened to me.

The only (kind of) similar thing I've had is when booking.com took payment for a holiday twice in error from my account. The payments were in a 'pending' type state so the bank were able to quickly cancel one of them, but I doubt they took it from booking.com's account - it didn't get that far.

10.00am kick off! Last card 13.30!

I'll be shooting it from 10.00 onwards!

    https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1776691609028180&id=165816930115664

Thanks mate! Does last card means last entry? As in I can get there at 1ish and start?

As an aside, something I've often wondered about competitions - normally the results of the competition are announced at the end of the day along with prizes etc. aren't they? But what if you started shooting as soon as the day started, you might not be around for the end. I'm quite possibly missing something simple here - I've only been to one competition, and this was the case - so everybody stuck around for the end.

I don't think I have ever needed to replace a single item in my cleaning kit - bin shooting 30 odd years and have 10+ Shotguns including one Black Powder.

What do you do with the brushes etc. when they're black?

  9. Which kit do you usually use for cleaning your gun? Which oil etc.? And when the pull-through mops have had their day do people buy them separate to the rods again? Seems a waste to keep buying rods every time I need a new kit.

It seems like there are five vendors some of whom do not get on. In any event bypassing an Estate Agent is underhand to say the least.

So what? He didn't do this from the outset, he did it because of the hassle he'd already had. And I dare say your average estate agent wouldn't think twice about playing an underhand strategy, especially when the likes of their 'perfect house' are riding on it and there'd already been a lot of messing around.

  11. I'd side with anybody wanting to use the safety to make things safer (if only marginally) - I don't see how you can argue against the use of it. But I think anybody using the safety as a substitution in any way for any other sort of precaution should have their license revoked. I don't want to be around that. You'd have to be a real pleb to depend on the safety catch.

How do people recommend selecting a financial adviser to ensure (as far as is possible) you end up with a 'goodun'?

Obviously you can ask around friends/family, but just wondered if there are other things that can be checked or looked into before picking someone.

Good question, not sure - I've been fortunate enough to have been recommended ours by multiple people his company had helped with various things.

  13. When did this change happen? I went last month (and at least once a month before then) and not noticed anything that dramatically different other than the usual rotation. Must be really recent.

I did notice them building the new wood stands last time I was there but not closed any at that point.

It's probably my favourite shooting ground now (after a few bad days there), but I'd have to 'third' the no-bird situation, pretty annoying. Although, credit to them, I've found them to be as reasonable as they were with you when I went back for a moan about it.

Off-topic (sorry to hijack the thread) - anybody know which days their guns are out for sale? Interested in picking up a 20 bore and wouldn't mind seeing what they have.

  14. They have absolutely no conscience at all. None. It's why I give up trying to see through the eyes of these sh*ts. How/why people like this behave the way they do can happily remain a mystery to me, I don't care, they simply don't have the same reasoning/logic system as we do, I just hope someone gets their hands on them. Really sorry to hear this.

I have used (one of the major names) 'financial advisor' firms for all my life.  I have stuck with them - and overall I have been pleased with the result.  I set targets, the main one of which was to be in a financial position to retire at 60.  It worked and I did.  The result could have been achieved at lower cost, but it could also have been missed.  Had I done my 'own thing' (rather than a fixed payment to them monthly) I might not have been disciplined enough to keep it up, or I might have made the wrong investments, or taken the wrong path on the balance between tax relief 'on the way in' (pensions) and 'on the way out' (ISA and PEP).

I have run their 'plan' past a relative who is financially very knowledgeable and worked in the city in a senior role.  Their advice has always been 'passed' by him as sound, though with caveats that I am paying significantly for the service.

Their people are (or at least give the appearance of being) quite well paid - and the overall firm have done well (as witness by the price of their own shares) - and you could argue that this has been at my expense.  Well - it achieved what I set out to do, so I'm satisfied.

Absolutely. You pay for the advice, but if it's good advice it's worth it and has the potential to save you money, so arguably there's no cost. I don't really use their apparent wealth as a metric to how valuable their advice is (to an extent ). I'm also happy to be trained at my gym by a personal trainer that may not look as in shape as others. It helps, but I appreciate there are legitimate reasons why; in the case of financial advice - the advisor may not have the capital I do so may not be able to generate the funds I can to run a plan/schedule that they'd recommend for me.

And I stress again, up-to date knowledge is critical. My sister rang me for advice on her up-coming mortgage application since I only recently (year and a half ago) applied for mine. I told her I'm reluctant to give her advice because things change so fast and to speak to my financial advisor instead. I did make suggestions as to what I thought he'd advise (i.e. what he told me a year and a half of go), all of which was out of date. Things had changed that fast. She took a totally different direction to what I would've recommended if I was adamant I knew best. She now has the house.

Most seem to echo my own thoughts it seems.

The plate dates to 03 so will go straight on my Defender.

I know it will knock her duck off if i moan about it so I think i'll have to bite the bullet and bang it on and hope it doesn't get vandalised as a result.

Its not exactly subtle though especially with the rear 4x4 plates as it will just read...

That's no good mate. Nice of you to be courteous but you've just outlined legitimate security concerns, my gf's feelings about an unwanted gift wouldn't come before those, that's just my opinion anyway.

You don't have to be qualified to have good advice. I have met some financial advisors that couldn't provide any half decent service.

That's purely anecdotal. Is your point that there are bad financial advisors, just as there are in any profession?

It says an awful lot to me.. How can you trust a person with your financial future when most of them don't have a bean in the bank. The money market and financial groups around the banking industry  are a law unto themselves. I have seen many elderly people given the most appauling advise that has cost them dearly.  Sometimes common sense is better than expensive "assistance" . Company advisors and accountants frequently make decisions that they wouldn't dream of suggesting if it was their own money,. from Auntie.

Again, are we concluding that there's no point in financial advisors or not? And again, you seem to be basing your opinion on what you 'have seen', it's all just anecdotal. I've seen bad financial advice too. I've also seen good (reputable and recommended) financial advisors save people a lot of hassle and, more importantly (in my opinion, at least), armed with the facts of the latest legislation. Which matters, a lot. It's their trade to keep upto date with new laws, guidelines and opportunities. The good ones will do this, and know a ton more than PW members, the bad ones won't, granted, but as I've said there are good and bad in any profession - so that ain't saying much.

I have never yet met a wealthy financial advisor... from Auntie.

That doesn't say much. Some of the world's greatest boxing coaches are terrible boxers. Are you saying you disagree that advice from a financial advisor is better than the advice from those that aren't qualified?
