Munties love apples and I know fallow do. There is a glut of apples this year so ask around you might find a local supply you can pick your own.

Thank you. I’ll put some apples out. Many fallow pass through the woodland as well as roe and muntjac.

When i was in America they would put down salt. called a salt lick.

Part of the reason they don't salt the roads over there was deer would come onto the roads to lick it off and it caused accidents.  Deer on the roads in winter was a big problem at the best of times because the roads were warmer than the surrounding fields.

That sounds good for fallow. Although with all the rain I don’t think it would last that long.

trying to rub velvet i expect. a lot of bucks fall fatal to this. shot a buck about ten years ago with its head covered in fencing wire. the base of antlers were covered in maggots. my mate asked me if he could have the head and boiled it out with all wire still attached. made a interesting mount to show what happened

    Never thought about that.

Not wishing to over speculate on the possibilities but a crossbow bolt goes clean through on soft tissue. you need to turn it over and see whats on the other side. On the north side of London fringe,  from Ruislip/Harefield in the west to Barnet in the north lots of munties turning up with crossbow injuries. Blame goes to Eastern Europeans, and to be honest they are fishing the lakes dry so its more than plausible,  heard of swans and ducks too, plus many are disappearing from our local parks .

Speculation/ rumour is RSPCA are mounting a case against crossbows, I don't often agree with RSPCA but they might be on the money with this one

I didn't notice anything unusual when I moved it. I think the other side is badly decomposed so would be hard to see an exit wound. I live in Berkshire. Should have checked the other side, probably too late now. I thought it possibly could have been a dog attack/animal attack but I didn't see any sign of a struggle. Hopefully there isn't a disease going around.

this time of year when the vegetation flushes it can scour them and you do fine a few dead, it's probably a bit far gone but did it look like it had the runs?

I didn't notice anything unusual. How does the vegetation affect them? There's lots of vegetation growing at this time of year.

Is that a bullit hole in its side . If so that would explain it .

I think the holes are due to either crows or maggots. Land belongs to a school, so It's unlikely it was shot.

  6. I was walking in a private area of land. In an area of grass bordering a wood I came across a dead roe buck. Looked like it dropped dead on the spot. I saw it alive a week or two ago and it looked healthy. I wonder how it died. Never seen something like this before.

Caught them near a river bank, exactly same thing as the squirrels fat ball as bait, seed feeder above but only ever put a small amount of seed in because squirrels rip it open, at least they did not many about lately ???

I prefer peanut butter because they can't carry it away.

  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I'll post a picture of the rat once I've caught it.

I got this trap off fisheruk caught a lot of squirrels in it but a good few rats as well, and a hedgehog.

the rats go mental when you go to check the trap and dispatch them.

Rats seem a lot more intelligent than squirrels. I've caught many squirrels in my cage trap but rats are much more wary.
