  1. As an ex dog Racer myself, I really don't know why they are bothering with this. The sport is dying naturally anyway. As far as I am aware there is only one track left in Wales and that a small flapping track.

The UK used to have well over an hundred tracks and at the last count there are only about 23 left and some of those are barely hanging on.

Lets see what happens across te board when lead is banned and steel/eco wads are the only shells available at hugely inflated prices.

Small informal clubs will be decimated never mind full blown grounds.

There is no logical reason why there should be much price difference if manutactures only produce steel instead of lead. As shooters we will all be in the same boat and no doubt grounds and targets will be adjusted to steel cartridges. However , when anything changes it is always a convenient excuse to increase margins. If manufactures want to be greedy, then as they say, they could be killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

    I disagree.

As soon as manufacturers are making steel their main shot and only do lead in small batches, and the price points flip, most shooters will move to what's financially more economical.

That makes perfect sense, but will the prices flip ? In theory steel is far cheaper than lead but I have heard the production methods to make it into shot is more difficult. We also know how our industry likes to make an healthy profit. If prices do flip I would be ecstatic, however remaining around the same is probably the best I am hoping for.

I got one too, under protest, pre-ULEZ (thanks Khan, you 🤬), but am pleasantly surprised with how well it drives and how little it costs to run.

Yes I was a bit of a sceptic myself till I got in one for a drive. After that there was no going back ,in my opinion the actual driving experience is far better than any conventional vehicle I have driven, and I have had many in my time.

  5. Recently got a small electric car as a second vehicle and for my wife to run around in. The range is 200+ miles which is more than enough for the journeys we use it for. It's lovely to drive and great in an urban environment. Plus we have a drive and home charger and I have worked the running cost at 2p per mile. Personally I really like them ,but they have their place and I can understand why others would have issues.

I would say they are part of the future but not the total solution.

Trinity, do you shoot much FITASC?

It has always been expensive because it takes a long time and you cannot get many shooters through in a day.

No chance, at my standard and those prices it would be a complete waste of time and money 😂😂

I called in a few weeks ago and talked to two of the staff. It's around an hour from me, that said, nice friendly knowledgeable staff. I ordered in advance to make sure stock available gave them an ETA and my order was ready when I arrived. Unless I can find better closer which is unlikely they've now got my trade. They also gave me an out of hours mobile number if I needed anything. I've only ever had that from one other dealer in the last 50+ years.

Bit longer journey than I thought then, anyhow glad you are sorted. Yes decent shop ,used them in the past.

There's been quite a few posts recently about 28 bore and 16 bore.

Just wondering, what's the availability of over the counter cartridges.

Here in Sheffield there are three RFDs.

One sells only Hull in 12 and .410. In .410 its 11gram clay & game only. 2 choices of 12 bore and nothing in 20.

The other sells a slightly bigger range of 12 bore and .410 in only 17 gram. Little in 20 bore and nothing in anything else. Neither will entertain ordering in anything else even if paid in advance.

The third RFD, I haven't used since it opened and it sold my son wet cartridges. Lost our trade in its first week.

I just wondered what was on offer further a field.

Check out Kirklees Guns in Huddersfield only half hour north of you. Quite a bit of choice in those smaller calibre loads according to their website

  9. Just got a day state and reading the literature that comes with it, the manufacturer recommends periodic cleaning of the bore, every 1000 pellets I seem to think.

But like you guys, never thought it was needed

  10. From talking around, many shooters seem to have been stocking up prior to this latest rise. Many will continue to shoot regular for a few months or so, perhaps even through the summer. However from now on I suspect cartridge sales will fall whilst stocks are used and then once they have gone many shooters will be reluctant to shoot as many at the higher prices. Lets hope the cartridge producers feel a squeeze and then they may have reason to look at ways of making their products more affordable.
