    bipods

[eh up the majority of bipods available now are "quick detachabel" style, the top sellers being harris and outers/rockmount (harris clomes) though have to admit my preference is for the versa-pod style, they are a little heavier than the harris but a lot more stable as well as allowing pan and tilt unlike the harris which only offer tilt options on some of thier bipods. They also allow a sling to be permamently fitted. hope this helps you out ROB ps ignore all this info if fitting to a springer, general rule of thumb is springers dont react well to be shot using bipod

    Mink kills?

erm can anyone read the only sticky on this section??B)? just incase you cant here is the important bit..... We [bASC] recommend that you refrain from using them on live quarry other than the following: crows, rooks, jackdaws, magpies, jays, woodpigeon, collared doves, feral pigeons, brown rats, grey squirrels and rabbits. That about covers all the quarry that is acceptable to be taken using a standard airgun.
  3. here is how to use a variable power rifle. YOU MUST SPEND TIME AND GET THE CORRECT SCOPE FOR IT!!!! to find the best scope you need two targets one at your far distance zeroing range for full power and another at your closer low power range. 1. zero the rifle at long distance 2. take a couple of shots at low power at near target adjust zoom on scope to enable shot to ne on either a mildot or the thick post at the bottom of the cross hair. the variable power rifles really are good IF your willing to put in the range time and learn how to use them! The variable rifles are much more versatile than many of the fixed power rifles, if you dont have time to spend down the range or on a quiet bit of your shoot laying some lead, then yes they are a waste of time and money. ROB
  4. that would be most of the rifles RWS, FX and some webley rifles and some logun rifles. Though most of them are made around Fredrick Axors (or is it atkinsons?) desingns the logun gladiator and dominator are probably the two most well known, and more recently the FX cyclone from ben taylor and sons (BTAS). Fairly certain they were mostly all FX rifles just rebaged for sale in this cournty under lisence from FX or was it RWS? thats the trouble when so many different rifles are so similar. There was a time when webley brought out the spectre then the following month logun brought out their version, the only problem was they were identicle rifles!!!!!! the comics had heck of a time finding an excuse to advertise loguns newest rifle just a couple of weeks after showing us the all singing all dancing new webley rifle LOL ROB
  5. You havnt done much shooting with springers then? A silencer on a springer WILL make a difference, not a huge difference but it will be noticable. I have tried an unsilenced rifle shooting next to a silenced rifle and boy did it make a difference, i once thought like you it was a waste of time getting one fitted. But having had this experiance i can honestly say it does make a noticable difference. The rifle i was able to compare was a silenced and unsilenced HW35, this was a true side by side comparison NOT a shot with and then without silencer! Yes a fair bit of noise does come from the action, BUT if you can make the muzzel report as quiet as possible, when you get the rifle tuned out profesionaly it saves you haveing to spend another £100 getting the rifle cut down, screw cut and re crowned not to mention £40 saving on the silencer!!!
  6. wont effect accuracy in the least, carbines effect accuracy when your shooting at 100yards with a heavy grain bullet but when your talking about airgun ranges and velocities the number of turns in a barrel will make no difference at all, or at least none that you would ever notice LOL one of the most popular sping rifles has a barrel 7.5" long as has one of the more popular gas rams, and then you get rifles custom made with barrels 7.5" long being just as accurate as rifles with standard length barrels. The only real difference a longer barrle makes is to power, a longer barrel on a pcp rifle will increase the power, but will not reduce the number of shots, though i couldnt sewear that this is the same case with springers, i would asume so but i wouldnt put my neck on it. The only real reason you dont get ultra short carbines is the cocking effort of a short barrel in .177. ROB
  7. just curiouse but what size bottle is it? (how many ltrs capacity is it?) i have seen some long thin airgun bottles (5' tall, side by side you could mistake them for a welderss set) but just becasue they are tall and thin does not mean they hold more air than a 2' dumpy bottle. I have seen both and they are both 12ltr capacity. Dont forget you would have to get a replacemt valve for the cylinder which would be roughly another £25 second hand. Haveing used several pumps myself, i know they really are not as bad as some people would have you belive LOL I used a webley pump (fx pumps are the same) and these are probably the best i have experiance of (tried a logun and a hills as well to compare). Used my pump on my career up to 250 bar!!!!! I needed a good cup of coffee after but managed to do it without puffing and panting too much LOL as for the reason some people, myself included, tend to jump up and down when people say what about filling my rifle with..." 99% of the time they are muppets and its justa lot quicler to type DONT EVEN GO THERE YOU MUPPET!!!!!! So dont mind us a good discusion is fun sometimes and that way you will walk away happy knowing the reassons behind the statements. I am normaly the first t jump up and down ungabunga styel, but am also the first to admit when im wrong (see hw95 thread). ROB
  8. aha are these a factory issue model now? If so there shoudnt be any problems as i was saying about. ROB
  9. as long as the job has been done propery and not botched a shortend 95 is probably going to be a very nice little rifle, as long as its been tuned to maintain the pproper power level. But i would advise you to give it a good trying out before you part with any cash. ROB
  10. hmmmm what would be at the top of my list were i to go FAC? springers PRO ELITE (IF YOU CAN GET ONE) THEOBEN ELIMINATOR (MOST POWERFUL RIFLE YOU CAN BUY, ALEGEDLY THE ONLY RIFLE THAT CAN PUSH A PELLET SUPERSONIC!!!!) TX200 PCP AIR ARMS CLASSIC FAC VERSION DAYSTATE MK3 PRETTY MUCH WHATEVER PCP YOU LIKE THE LOOK OF ROB
  11. ok now for the technical side of the answer, but unfortunatly i have very limited experiance, im sure someone will be along soon with a little more knowledge than i. Ok you say the cylinder has 400bar stamped on it has a it got a valid test certificate? has it been hydro tested? has it had a visual inspection? Is the 400bar test presure or SWP? what type of thread is on the bottle? how old is it? what has it been used for previously? last but not least, would you be happy to strap it to your back and breath 100% of the contents?? Divers bottles have been produced with one job in mind, as have most things on this planet, to use them for airrifles, the air rifles have been designed around the bottles. To want to use a third party bottle would be like using a plastic bottle to carry a couple of litres of petrol in, it could possible do the job but then again it could possible, litteraly, just blow up in your face. Divers bottles have one of two contector type valuves fitted, either a din type crew in fitting or an "A" clamp clamp on fitting. Reading back through your posts you seem to have a head on your shoulders if you want to keep it there i woudl think you would want to keep it there, so please dont take any of what has been said on this thread as anything other than good advice. I still stand by what i said I really would like to be a fly on the wall in the dive centre were you to ask them in person if they would be willing to fill your "non breathing air" bottle LOL ROB
  12. if your interestead in a little BSA lightening .22 with a 3-9x40 scope bag and a tin of pellets for £150 posted give me a shout. Will try to get soime pics sorted a bit latter drop me a line on: garlingebob@aol.com happy hunting ROB
  13. I would love to be in the dive shop when you ask them this  If you think we are a bit harsh here, you try asking that questin in a RW diving shop have you aver heard of the darwin awards? you seem to be a prime candidate if you carry on as you are. ROB :(
  14. it is a JVC EVERIO model number GZ-MC200EK it comes complete with a 4GB custom flash memory card, this one will record over 5 hours!!!!! (or 9999 still pics) and as a back up for the pics 1gb sd memory card! (can also be used for video). I have the box manual and cd for the movie editing software! You just plug it straight into the computer download the video clip straight to the comp or you can do it the old fashioned way and edit as you record on your VHS or if your modern your dvd recorder. Its as simple as pressing play and record at the same time! The video files are stored on the camera and can be accessed using the thumbnail view, no more searching for the end of the last shot and each can be deleted in 2 seconds. The camera is as easy to use as a simple digital camera, it has a zoom button, move it left it zooms out move it right it zooms in, big button to record things, big button again to stop recording things. then you got a little button on the side slide that round to the viewing mode and push another little button to watch what you just recorded. This has to be one of the simplest cameras out there!!!! I could tell you some of the specs but i imagien you would google it anyway so here is what i found: copied from the jvc web site: • User-Friendly GUI for Easy Operation and Setting • Thumbnail Picture for Easy & Quick Viewing • 1.8" LCD Monitor • Built-in Auto Flash • 48kHz/16bit Stereo Voice Recording Function (WAV) • USB2.0 for High-Speed Transfer • Easy Printing with PictBridge and DPOF Support • JVC Compact rotating grip design • Weight 355 grams*, volume under 400 cubic centimetres • 4GB Microdrive® Removable Media Provided • Microdrive®/CompactFlash Type II card and SD Dual Card Slots for Extra Data Storage and Transfer • 1/3.6-inch 2.12 Megapixel CCD for High-Quality Image Capture • High-Quality MPEG-2 Video Recording (up to 720 x 576/50i in ULTRA mode) with Dolby Digital Audio (MOD file) • High-Quality Digital Still Shooting with up to 1600 x 1200 pixels, (JPEG) • Megabrid Engine for Optimal Video and Still Quality • 10 x Optical Zoom/200x Digital Zoom • Super Hi-Rez JVC Lens *including battery, Microdrive®, lens cap and hand strap you can find some pics here: http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/3...mera001zc1.jpg http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/8454/camera002zc5.jpg http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9...mera003vn5.jpg http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/5...mera005qb4.jpg £250 including special delivery!!! (one sold recently on **** for £280+postage) The new price on these was well over £700, though now they can be bought for around £450ish which is well under half from when it was new!!!! and that still gives you a savign of 33% on the price of a new one!!!!! there is a slight down side about it though, there is very (and ido mean VERY) slight damage to it, someone i leant it to for a bit of wildlife filming tightend it up on to the tripod to much and scratched the underside of it i shall sort some pics out tomorrow many thanks ROB added email addy: garlingebob@aol.com
