Looks like we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Or maybe just liked easy access to different cultures, work opportunities and holidays. I’m sure there are hundreds of reasons from both sides of the argument.

Ok thanks. Would SASC be a better choice?

I should maybe have been clearer in my original post, but I have shot for a good number of years and had insurance. But with the kids showing an interest, licenses seeming to be getting harder to get and shooting sports being under scrutiny, I was thinking I should join a organisation and do a bit to secure the future of the sport.

We go clay pigeon shooting, beating on a local shoot, rough shooting, pest control and a bit of deer stalking. Not interested in competitive shooting, insuring the guns might be a good idea depending on policy excess and premiums. Thanks.

Evening all, I am looking for family shooting insurance. Obviously BASC is not the cheapest out there but I don’t mind paying extra if it helps the future of the sport. Does sasc do similar work? Is the BASC worth the extra over just paying for an insurance policy? I have done a search on the forum but have been unable to get a definitive answer, I can see this has been a contentious subject in the past but I’m am just trying to decide what is best. Thanks.

I know a few people who have emigrated, Australia, USA and the like. I think if you or your partner have a skill that they need, they will accept you quite readily. As it happens a lad I used to knock about with set up a very successful business in Australia, sorting visa applications, jobs and housing for brits emigrating over there. Basically a turnkey jump on a plane job and everything was ready to go. Obviously an English speaking country would be easier to integrate into. I recently returned from a work trip to Italy and found them to be rather frosty even though we all worked for the same company, language barrier may have been a factor I suppose. To me one of the major benefits of being in the EU was freedom to work in any member state not so much for me but definitely for the kids if they wanted to travel when they got older. Maybe some agreement will be reached to enable that in the future but who knows.

Most of the auctions I’ve been to, run of the mill guns go for peanuts. Good guns are rarely a bargain once the VAT and buyers premium has been applied. Small bores (especially pump and semi auto) always fetch decent money. And ammo seems to be snapped up by dealers. I still like to go though, had a laugh one time with my mate. He bought 3 shotguns for £15, all full choke singles with 30 odd inch barrels, all about knackered. Couldn’t fit them in his cabinet so spent a couple hundred on a new one. Don’t think he’s fired the guns yet 😅
