  1. Harvest well under way now, despite a brief respite due a bit of rain. The first barley cut last week and there some good numbers out on it, so obviously I had to have a go. I spotted the line, got the hide up well into the hedge nothing going to see me!! and set a dozen dead birds out on cradles and the whirly , then I waited, then I moved things about a little bit, a couple of degrees of wind shift, then I waited, then I shot 1 pigeon and a crow, then I waited and waited, then I put the flapper out an waited, then I took it in moved about and waited took the whirly in and waited then I moved everything to where I could see a few birds mooching about and I waited again. Then I drove back up the field and saw a large amount just out from my original hide, so I set up in the tramlines of uncut barley put the dead birds back out sure to have a cracking last couple of hours. I waited..... waited......waited, then packed up and ****** off I love pigeon shooting. Whatever I did I just couldn't get them to decoy into my pattern, I used dead birds in cradles out of cradles, moved things about all to no avail. My conclusion is that sometimes it just doesn't happen. After some really nice and concentrated shooting over peas this was a reality check!! The rest of the field, another 55 acres goes tomorrow and theres a cracking tree line out into the field but I am just not sure how to attack it now. Maybe get the shells out!! leave the hide at home and take a boomerang. Rape going Friday so hopefully that will be more fruitful!
