young airgunner
well fac finally came through the post. took long enough. 3 1/2 months Was hard enough to get to aswell. i have shot rifles for years, starting off in cadets then shooting with various friends and keepers i have helped out. they make it so hard to get one now. basically they wont you to prove all the experience you have had. not a problem as i got different people i had shot with to give me letters to give to the feo stating i had shot with them etc. i also had to make copies of my dsc1, certificate from forrestry commision on dispatching RTA deer, copies of my game and wildlife management diploma stating we had covered firearms in that etc. i dont really think it was fair that i need to give all that info. my job is a gamekeeper so i obviously have a need for them, 4,500 acres to use them on and the fact that one of the farmers i work with got given a .222-50 and .25-06 when he hadnt even shot rifles much before or done dsc1. to be honest i think i have had a hard time of applying due to age. the feo said oh because you have dsc1 doesnt mean you will get deer calibre rifle. how is that true, theres no law saying you cant get big cal rifle without it and there are many people that have been granted them without it. Anyway got granted .22rf, .17hmr, .243 and FAC shotgun sorry for the rant but felt i had been treated a bit unfairly compared to many others. FAC is here now and that is all that matters James Edited October 2, 2009 by young airgunner
stokie
Well done James . You dont mention your age .I`d say you have good reason to own one . May be it did go against you but you got it in the end thats all that matters. Good hunting
young airgunner
Sorry im 19. thats not too young but seems like there is one rule for one, one for another. i wish each police department and feo sang from the same hymm sheet if they published clear requirements then i think applying would be alot simpler and less stressful
