game_boy
Headed out this morning to my goose spot that I shoot every year, a little late actually an hour late as I set my alarm for 0645 instead of 0545. But I wasn't too bothered as I notice that there were still pinks coming off the water up till 0900 a few days ago. All my decoys ae where I shoot but I couldn't be bothered putting them out as its a bit of hike up to the field. Plus previous two outings have proved fruitless with them out in the field. Something I plan to rectify next time with a different pattern and my mate as its alot of work to get set up your self. Anyhoo plan was just to sit in my usual gorse bush as I have always done pre-decoys and wait for them to circle over me to land in the next field as they always do when the wind is right. Previously I have rejected alot of shots believing them to be out of range whn they have been coming over me. Plus I hvae also missed them due to not giving enough leed and not swinging through them. A few skeins came over but a bit too high but as more came off the water, a skein came a bit lower and I thought I'd have a crack at them. The sound deafening, nothing else compares to having hundreds of Pinkfoot going crackers over head and gliding into to a field. One of natures true specticles. Picked a bird out gave it one shot probably about 5 ft of leed and it dropped down from from the main group. It probably would have came down anyway but as it was still a decent height I gave it another #3 50g and it came down like a helicopter, a few flutters and all went quiet. First Pinkfoot of the season. Well chuffed as its the furtherst shot I've taken and a shot I would normally fail at or judge to high. I would estimate it to be at least 45yrds up if not more. Anyway I was happy at that, had a few shots after but no result, as I left more were still ariving, so I called it a day. Plan next time is try to get them into the decoys! Half of one of its breast is currently marinading for a stirfry after been very thinly sliced wafer thin. Cheers folks.
