It's Rainin White Feathers
picked 51 pigeons yesterday and 12 crows but it was difficult going. Set up was fine birds were not flaring away from coys just were more interested in landing in the sitty trees. the position i was in was near a flightline near sitty trees, this was as close to trees as i could get about 80 yards. Coming in flocks of between 6-10 but only 1 or 2 sometimes 3 would decide to commit to the coys, the others were happy to fly to and sit up in the trees. Very frustrating, used flapper and floater to try and pull them but didnt work. I now think they were possibly feeding in a field further away and coming back to sit up? Any ideas or was it just one of those days? Would a magnet have worked?

old rooster
Don't seem to be interested in the Barley or Wheat around here, still bashing away at the rape stubble (where it hasn't been ploughed in yet !) Had a reasonable shoot on a bit of ground I've recently managed to get on for the first time, just missed getting on to shoot drilled beans when Wabbitbosher came out with me for a day a while back. Rape stubble disked over, watched it for an hour and set up with decoys on a banked field, nothing for the first half hour then all hell broke loose and I'd put the hide bang under the intersection of 3 flight lines. Got a couple of birds up on the home made lightweight whirly and it went mental for a couple of hours. Needless to say I shot like a tw*t hitting only the long range shots and more awkward birds while actually missing a couple of sitters !. It really is a case of checking out your decoy pattern and hide visibility if the birds are flaring away like you mention, maybe they could see youm over the top of the hide as they came in ? this can happen if thay are high on approach. sutty
Its Raining White Feathers, I had a simlar day last wednesday, pigeons were feeding on laid wheat in a field that isnt my permmision, However they were coming into a sitty tree in a corner of a rape stubble field that has been dragged over, (i suspect to digest there ill gotten gains) I set up just to the side of this tree and put a few deeks out (with a couple of floaters on the ends), the majority of what came into the deeks were juvenilles, the older birds headed straight for the sitty tree? I have had three sessions over the last nine days in the same place and had a 42 ,23+30 bag, (prob should have had bigger bags but "Bulls ****+shovel springs to mind) Dosent sound like you were doing anything wrong with your lay-out, its just the way pigeon shooting goes, Guess which tree i'll be sat near come monday. Regards Sutty
