Well ,an interesting day.

We ahve a new shoot captiian this year on the shoot I've been going to for about 4 years. It's always been a fantastic shoot, never huge numbers of birds but always a good laugh and good folk. The people are just the same aqnd it's still a good place to be but things have changed.

We once went to the places we knew birds would be and did what we could. A good day would be about 40 head, sometimes more usually less. It was always a bit ad-hoc making things up as we went along but was always a good laugh with some good birds.

The new shoot captain is actually very good for the shoot; very diligent, attentive and has made cahangea, such as bridges, to make life easier. Thing is I tink he's over thought things. We spend more time walking up wall lines, for a couple of birds he saw a few days earlier, than we do driving the areas we know to be productive. There is some validity in this but of the 10 guns today 5 never even got a shot off. It's just pi++ing me off a bit. Good intentions but everyting has been over thought to the detriment of practicality and enjoyment.

It's going to be my last season on the shoot anyway so I'm not going to make a fuss but I find it frustrating that things can go so awray so quickly, despite good intentions.

Hay, ho!

Why is it that people are always airing their grievances on here without first talking to the person/people their angst is aimed at? If I had an issue with someone I'd talk to them about it and if things didn't alter after that then maybe I'd be off but if the shoot has been good fun for you for 4 years why suddenly decide to quit without first trying to make it better. It's easy to winge not so easy to put in the effort to get things right! Or in the immortal words of JFK ...'ask not what your shoot can do for you but what you can do for your shoot!'
