Bali
Hi Does anyone know if a 451 bullet re sizing die will work with a 454 lead bullet Cheers Nick
Vince Green
Yes and no. Yes it is physically possible to do it but the bullets will probably not shoot very accurately. Really for resizing bullets you only want to be reducing the diameter by a minimal amount. The more you reduce the size the more you risk upsetting the balance. A .454 cast bullet probably started life a bit more than that anyway. The lead that gets displaced is forced into the bands causing them to bulge slightly and probably sets up a bit of imbalance. However, don't be put off, try it and see, you may be lucky and not have a problem. Edited January 6, 2010 by Vince Green
Bali
Thanks for that I did wonder if to much would need to come off. I don't want to buy a resizer about £30 I think,if its not going to work. I will try and get a .451 bullet just to check that it chambers ok first. Vince Green
What are you trying to do?
Bali
A resized 45 case chambers ok. With a 454 bullet in, it jams half way down, even after resizing again. So a 451 bullet I am hoping should be OK and allow the cartridge to chamber correctly (hope this makes sense) Nick Edited January 7, 2010 by Bali
Vince Green
Is this in .45 LC? the old Colt revolvers used bullets in .454" because of loose chambers and barrels but the modern pistols and rifles use bullets in .452"
Bali
Yes I think you are spot on there. I had some 45 LC 454 lead bullets which I have loaded for a modern gun 452 would be ok I will have to get some from the club and use the 454's in the black powder pistol Cheers Nick
