Dekers
I'm in the same position, got granted and received my SGC without a cabinet installed but was told categorically that I needed a follow visit to check the cabinet before I bought anything. FEO said there would be a note on my file and they'd kick my *** if I bought one before the install and check. I am struggling with that, I am not suggesting he didn't say it but legally it is ********. If he didn't want you buying guns until the cabinet was installed he does not issue you with a SGC until the cabinet is installed. Strikes me as yet another incompetant FEO, and at this rate he is going to get his **** kicked really hard one day!! Once you have a SGC in your hands (assuming it has no conditions) they cannot stop you buying anything, cabinet or no cabinet!
jackinbox99
The Police have never been out to see my cabinet since being granted my certificate in 2008,but the emphasis of trust to ensure the security of the guns is on the owner anyway. If they've issued you with a cert-then they obviously trust you to do the right thing. Thats my experience anyway. When i first got my SGC, i never had a cabinet. In fact, it was about 6 years later and after a renewal I finally bought a cabinet and my first shotgun. The FEO was never interested in checking I had a cabinet and it wasnt even mentioned when he came out and handed over my SGC and the subsequent renewal. Now, god knows how many renewals later, ive never been asked about my cabinet and its never been checked. For all they know i could keep my guns under the bed. At the end of the day, its about responsibility and how you come across to the FEO.
