FAC variation for stalking rifle

Once I have saved a bit more im after a new stalking rife...

 

On the renewal in the box that asks where im going to use it im struggling to decide what to put.

I dont have my own land and intend to buy days stalking as often as I can afford, however the forms are geared toward having a specific plot of land that is signed off for a certain gun.

am i expected to tell the FLO every time I book a days stalk?

 

Are there any stalkers on here who have found the best way to address this?

Generally your local constabulary will want the rifle dedicated to a parcel of land that has been surveyed by them to be safe to shoot on . After a while the police can if you are a suitable candidate offer you an open ticket wher by you will be able to shoot on any land that you have permission for .

You could of course book stalking days on a sporting estate and use an estate rifle under the supervision of the resident stalker .

I got the variation for my FAC for a .308 purely based on paid stalking. I had been on a couple of paid stalking trips, had paid and booked my DSC course. I didn't have land to shoot deer on.

 

I would say the best bet is to book a couple of days stalking as evidence and if you have any paid stalking in the past, send them evidence of this. A letter from a guide, saying you have been stalking or inviting you to stalk with them would help too. I also chucked in an application form for the BASC Isle of Arran scheme with my variation as a further opportunity I'd be missing out on without my own rifle.
