WGD
Do you mean bred from trialling stock or a cocker that they trial?

bunnybasher100
seems like not many have them i think i may have led my self to a disaster i just about to buy a fully trainned dog to feild trial standards and from ian opeshaw stock, the trainner won't trail her because she whines every now and then when cast off. Plenty people trial cockers so I can't see how you conclude you are heading for disaster. If you compared the number of people who trial springers or labs with the number of people who own and work them you would see that dogs trained to trial standards are in the minority and form a very small proportion of working dogs. You won't go wrong buying a trained dog, provided you know how to handle it and the dog's nature and the type of work it does suits the type of work you want it for, a trial bred and trained cocker won't take too kindly to lying on the foreshore or sitting in a hide but will be a dream to shoot over on a walk up. You don't say what breed your other dogs are? For rock steady and fast I would be looking for a trial bred lab.
Beechessam
I have trial Cockers. One FTW bitch with Open Awards and one Novice Award Winning bitch with another that should be ready to go next season.
gdunc
I have trial Cockers. One FTW bitch with Open Awards and one Novice Award Winning bitch with another that should be ready to go next season. I really like liver cockers and she looks a cracker - how's she bred? Sorry to digress, back to the original thread - buying a spaniel trained to trial standards is great.... if you rough shoot or take a lot of walked up days. As a picking up dog they're not so good. I have a real hard going trial winning springer who even at 7 will run in from the peg given half a chance. If you've got the right work for her you'll have a great time, i you've not you'll end up getting annoyed as the dog will most likely not be so keen to hang around at heel on picking up days - though I may be wrong as it depends on the dog and can be done. As for the bitch with dogs problem - get her gubbins removed as she's already proven she's a whiner and shouldn't be bred from. Get yourself some real spaniel work shooting over the dog though and you'll have great days out Edited February 8, 2010 by gdunc

Beechessam
I really like liver cockers and she looks a cracker - how's she bred? She is by FTCH Timsgarry Barlow out of an FTAW bitch, Grandaughter to FTCH Chyknell Goldstar and FTCH Argyll Warrior. She is very fast hard hunting and full of enthusiasm. A real eye catcher that has the potential to go all the way.....I hope! Edited February 19, 2010 by Beechessam
