Ferret Master
Hi, The lightening every time. I have a standard lightening and used to have an xocet. The xocet has no safety, it is loud, it it noisy and difficult to cock. The lightening is easy to cock, quite quiet for a springer and has a safety. It also easier to wield as the xocet was weighted at the front. Hope this helps FM
roblade
have tried the lightening XL and the exocet and would have to agree with FM would be the lightening XL every time. If it were a choice between the old lightening and the exocet i think that would be a harder choice but the new one is miles better than the old one ROB
Gamekeeper
I can't agree with these remarks. I have both these rifles and I find the Xocet much, much easier to shoot accurately over 25 yards. It is true that the Lightning is a good deal lighter, but I believe that's actually a disadvantage. Unless you are very careful the kick of the spring tends to throw off your aim. It does mine anyway. Perhaps I'm just not a very good shot. Anyway, the Webley's easily the best for me. The other advantage of the Webley is its trigger. It's a double pull action, with a nice spongey feel that lets you squeeze gently and gradually increase the pressure until it fires. The Lightning's trigger action is far more abrupt. I note roblade's remark about the difference between old and new models; I don't know whether mine are "old" or "new" models, but I bought both of them brand-new earlier this year. Ferret Master
Hi, Gamekeeper, on the topic of whether it is an new model or old model does your lightning have chequered grip or not and does it have a silencer that stretches the length of the barrel? Gamekeeper
No, the stock is plain and the barrel is several inches longer than the silencer. However, I have an apology to make - mine's only an "ordinary" Lightning, not an XL which was what the OP mentioned. I don't know if the XL's action is any different from mine, although having a two stage trigger is definitely a worthwhile improvement. spider.20
i have a standard lightning an it shoots like a dream as long as you treat her right . the trik is to be gentle an not clamp her right in to your sholder(same for most springers).if you use lubed superfields you can get 11+ftlbs out of her. also i'v heard that they'v quitened down the internals of the XL which can only be a good thing. you cant hear the standard beyond 25m but extra quiet is always good! cheers spide
