Sprinter
Well time for another day on the rape, ready and rearing to go today as well. Arrived at same field as yesterday, nothing in the air, nothing on the deck. Wind had turned 180 degrees so needed to use another hide, shame really as this hide is a real hateful place, no back to it and very little front, wrapped the net around me as best i could and settled down. Magnet was out along with 9 dead birds + 10 flocked shells. Waited and waited, not a pigeon in the sky. Eventually something rustled behind me and it turns out to be a not so secret squirrel very quickly it turned into a dead not so secret squirrel. After a while a few black 'uns started to move about so hatched a plan. Squirrel was retrieved from middle of bramble bush, two of yesterdays crows recovered from ditch. A few mins work and i had a scene of two crows feasting on a squirrel with its puds out 15 yards to the right of my pigeon pattern. I wish i had remembered to take my crow calls but alas not, not really my bag black uns unless there is nowt else on. About 30mins later i heard a horse walking up and snorting, Poked my head out to see a startled rider surveying the scene of carnage. Dead pigeon and some crows along with a disembowled squiz!! After a short chat i reassured her that i wouldn't fire again until she was well out of sight and that she should carry on with her ride. Took the opportunity to eat my lunch, shame it was only 10am at the time!! don't you find on the slow days lunch goes early? Well rider had gone and i gave her another 10mins grace before i resumed operations, snicked out a couple of crows dead in the air and down with a hell of a thump on the frozen ground. Then a few mins later another, wondered if this could be a crow day after all but then nothing at all after that. After an hour a few pigeon were milling around but not decoying, took a few chance shots and ended up with 5 but it wasn't pretty. Started to get bored and cold so packed in at 2ish and went off home to process yesterdays haul. Strange thing was when i packed up and picked up there were only 2 crows on the deck one had ******** off. 5 pig, 2 blacks, 1 squiz - 19 shots.
