Now i really need some help how do i find a good puppy (bitch, black) from decent working stock. I dont even know where to start so any advice would be brill! i live in Buckinghamshire if tht makes a difference?!?
WGD
Shouldn't be too hard to come by, try www.gundogfinder.co.uk as a starting point. With labs ideally you want hip scored parents each below breed average (15 from memory - i.e. a 1:2 would be a score of 3), clear eyes and dna testing for PRA & CNM. Ordinarily you will not get this level of health testing but I would not buy a lab from parents with no hip scores. You will probably also know that from the parent's pedigrees you want to see kennel names prefixed by FTCh (Field Trial Champion) or FTW (Field Trial Winner) down the line somewhere, not necessarily throughout, to help demonstrate working ability. This is not necessary if you have seen both parents working and like what you see. Avoid anything with a kennel name in the pedigree prefixed by ShCh (Show Champion) IMO, there are exceptions that prove the rule but there is enough good working stock out there for you not to have to take the chance. Good luck.
