A Few Crows this morning.

My mate bullet boy and me went up onto one of my permissions this morning, to try and shoot some crows.

A few days ago, there were 100's of crows on the farm, and the farmer asked me to 'sort them out'. We met at the farm at 7am, and went to one of the top fields to set up the decoys/hide etc. I placed a few decoys out, with one on a floater. I also placed a few up into the tree above us. I also utilised 2 dead lambs and placed them out as well. There were no crows to be seen at first, then one came over and Mark hit it with two shots. The crow flew down the bottom of the field and then dropped into some woods. Not long later, another flew over me and I hit it smack on. This was placed on my flapper to add movement. Things were quiet, and we managed to shoot a further 3, with another two dropping down a few fields again. One was quickly dispatched by me, using my 17HMR, at a range of about 60 yards. By 10.30am we decided to pack in, and go up a different part of the farm, where we discovered loads of crows around the dung heaps. They soon flew off when they saw us arriving.

Further up the field, there were a few crows on fenceposts/gates, and one just sat behind a gate, busy calling his mates! I drove as near as I could, and Mark sneaked up to a wall, where he could get a safe shot. The crow quickly dropped by a well placed 17 HMR shot by Mark. The distance was around 85 yards.

We went back to the farmyard after that, and called it a day. We were disappointed in a way, as I had told Mark about the 100's up there previously, but, as I have said many times, it's not the size of the bag, but the enjoyment of being out shooting, together with good company.

My thanks to Mark for joining me. I hope to go back up on Friday.

The photographs show, my decoys in the tree, our hide, the 4 we picked up, the Crow that Mark shot (Mark's holding the bird) and a view looking down the field where we set the decoys out.
