kaiser1977
Afer a quiet few weeks on my permission, I thought I would take the new gun out instead of just the binoculars , the only pigeons i had seen were on waist high rape, but because of the height of it, I would end up doing more damage than the birds . So I went to another couple of fields of rape that have been really dead, one field was waist high and yellow the other however was at one end waist high the other only about 4" had a look through the bino's and the feild was covered in pigeons !!! now I have been watching these fields practically everyday for the past couple of months at different times of day and had never seen this many feeding, usually I'll see a group of about five as soon as they see me walk on to the field they are gone never to be seen again, but this time they flew off then turned round and came straight back , Now Been fooled by this one before so pushed them off again this time the just flew into the surrounding trees, Time was getting on (16.45) so I thought sod it I'll give it a go , Set up the hide and decoys just 6 of those FUD ones to give them a try and a bouncer to guide the birds down to the killing area, the whole time I was setting up birds were streaming across as soon as I got into the hide gun ready not a bloody thing . After 20 mins they finally decided to start coming in, now to see how the new 20 bore would cope as I've always used a 12 bore, 1st bird in and its a miss not the best start but the second came in first shot stone dead, they were steady in coming in till about 7 then went quiet so packed up at 7.30 . finished with a total of 14 for 35 carts missed some real sitters but I'm putting that down to the new gun, So down the clay ground tomorrow to break her in properly . Sorry no pictures as I didnt bring the camera, the 14 went straight to one of the guys on the farm, keeps everyone happy. Kaiser.
