andrew flavell
First post since joining in March. My SGC has finally come through and I've bought a second hand lanber sporter deluxe. I started beating two years ago through a colleague at work and have got hooked. I went from one pet dog to four in a weeks time. All have been trained as best I can to the gun and are used every season beating. Thats what started the interest. So much so I decided I'd get my own gun and work the dogs under it. Im not looking for shooting. Just an experienced person to show me how to go on. I've been clay shooting several times. So aware of the safety issues. I wont even fetch my gun. Just someone to show me the ropes on rough shooting/pigeon shooting. I live in south Yorkshire. will travel as long as its not 100 miles away. Why not go to my local shoot? Our shoot virtually shuts down at the end of the season untill the new birds go in. Ive got two potential permissions. so I aint going to steal yours...... Ill find my own thanks. I just need to know how to go on.........

UKPoacher
Andrew, what exactly are you looking for? If your shoot is not available then it wouldn't be possible to show you the ropes so to speak. There is almost no rough shooting in our area. It's either decoying or driven shooting. If you can get some access to land for decoying then I'd be only too happy to come down assist or you one evening. Another option is to tag along with one of the other beaters on your shoot. There's always one or two who go decoying and if they know you it's often easier to get an opportunity than asking strangers. As for the dogs. Three's a crowd, and four is three too many to start with IMO. You'll get a better reception if you took one well trained dog than more than one that aren't under full control.
