Colster
I have a real hankering to give an HMR a go, the idea of laying up in a field on a warm summer's evening potting bunnies at a 100yards or so seems very appealing but I don't want to (can't) spend a fortune on it. I've seen these (Mossberg Plinkster) on guntrader for around £220 but I have a 16" CZ452 Silhouette in .22LR which I love to bits that cost me £340 brand new. Are the HMR variants of the 452 generally more/less expensive than in LR as ideally I'd get a Style in 16" and at £340 for new would I be able to get somewhere near £250ish for second hand? I know the ammo is going to cost more than LR and I'd need another scope (thinking probably something FFP - Menace etc). Also can I trade a moderator slot for a rifle slot on my FAC as a 1-to-1? I have a empty slot on my FAC for a FAC Air Moderator but my AA S400 Xtra has a shrouded barrel so I don't think a silencer would make much difference anyway so I could possibly free a slot to change to an unmodded HMR. Beardo
You don't want an unmodded HMR, trust me! Save up and keep searching for a CZ Cheapest S/H on Guntrader £275 http://www.guntrader.co.uk/GunsForSale/100127133220003 Edited May 15, 2010 by nickbeardo
Colster
You don't want an unmodded HMR, trust me!Save up and keep searching for a CZ Really? I gathered they were noisy no matter what due to the bullet going supersonic. If the mod (SAK I assume) is a must then it's £26 type variation needed
Beardo
yes they go 'crack' with a mod, without they go BANGCRACK!
George1990
They're a fair bit louder without the mod on. Still loud with one but less so. Verging on wanting ear plugs without mod. I'd go CZ too. Think I paid slightly over the odds for mine (452 Varmint). Not sure as didn't spend ages looking like I normally do. Spent £310 SH with new Sirocco mod (after haggling too.) Beardo
Can't believe how much they've gone up in price - i only paid £295 for mine new!
vole
If the cz is too pricy then why not have a look at the Marlin ? Ruger and Marlin were the creators of .17 HMR I read. I have the Marlin 917,still working on the zero but seems a good gun after 200 rounds. Just need the right ammo. Trigger ok and bolt fine. Nobbad for £270. made in U.S too unlike the Mossberg (CBC).
