i own 3 berretas a 391 20 bore a xtrema 1 and a 686 special

i have been told all berreta barrels are chrome lined does this include the chambers i clean all my guns regular i have noticed little marks in the chambers and no matter how hard i try they dont seem to come out they look like tiny little pits but they aint pits am told does any one else have this problem and if the barrels and chambers are chrome lined is it possible for them to pit and corrode as i say i clean my guns after every outing im just wondering what these tiny marks are.

does any one oil there bores after they have been cleaned.

Hi Sam

Iv'e not noticed any marks in my Beretta barrels, but may'be my eyes arn't that good now day's, how have you been cleaning them ? I just use a good bronze brush and WD 40 to scrub, then swab with rag, and then pollish with wool mop. if I get a lot of leading in the forcing cones after lots of felt wad carts I clean with a bit of scochbrite wound round a piece of dowl and turned a slow battery drill, lubed with a sqwert of WD 40, this usually gets all the marks out, give it a try.

Mick. :good:

A number of points.....ALL beretta barrels MAY be chrome lined now but I struggle to believe they have been from day one (could be wrong) and just because it is chrome lined it does not mean it is IMPOSSIBLE to pit it!

However I have a 391 and a 686 Sporting Special and previously a 303 and Silver Pigeion III, none of these exhibit the issues you suggest.

Regular cleaning is very important, primarily it is the propellant that is corrosive (hence why Bore Snakes were "invented", to get rid of a lot of propellent residue in the field until you could clean them properly), everything else can be removed from a smooth bore barrel without too much effort!

PS. who told you they were NOT pits, and what did they suggest they were?? :good::good:

...and yes...always a LIGHT oil on the chamber/bore after a clean!!
