HW97K or BSA Lightning XL

Hello all,

Without drawing any conclusions as to my motivation for this question from other recent threads, could anybody give me some feedback as to the pro's and cons of the above plinkers?

I have been shooting with a lightning (borrowed) for a while and found it to be OK, the Weirach however gets good reviews.

Any points of interest?

BH,

I bought the Lightning XL after reading up on both and my decision was purley on weight,The 97K was quite a bit heavier but a really good gun but so is the XL.If it is for hunting i would recommend either but if for field target etc don,t waste your money as i wish i had saved up more for a PCP (Air Arms 400),but still love the lightning for plinking and hunting at my local farm,I have had it for two months now and put about a thousand pellets through but always clean it after a plinking session. If you were interested in it i could do you a good deal but not too bothered either way.

I have a 97K And other than it being a little on the heavy side I don't think you can fall off. Accuracy is good with a wide range of pellets, report is fairly quiet due to built in moderator. An all round nicely made rifle. I recently fitted a new spring and seal due to low muzzle velocity and it behaves a lot nicer now.

No comparison, the 97k wins hands down... The lightnings not a bad little gun for the money and shoots quite well but the 97k's in another class.

If your sticking with springers get a 97k (or an AA TX) and you wont want another gun. Get a lightning and you'll want a 97k after a few months...

My 97k shoots smoothly with minimum fuss and recoil, has had 30,000 plus pellets through it and still shoots 10 ~ 15mm groups at 30 metres.

Regards

Tony

Gotta be the lightning bud, it's my weapon of choice. nice weight, good power, very accurate, quiet. For the money i don't think you could get a better springer. As for the hw97k ive heard it's a bit heavy but ive never had a play with one.

What would you know eh? Bl**dy Nube.

As the first post describes them as plinkers I'll assume that's what it'll be used for. Weight is no issue for plinking so get the 97. It makes the Lightning feel very twangy and buzzy. Weight is a bonus on springers for the actual shooting as it tames some of the recoil. Then again I'd actually buy a TX200HC as it's roughly the same price as the 97 but a better gun again. It has synthetic bearings as std that the 97 doesn't.
