carlosdesilva
Does anyone give thier older dogs any form of supplement to keep there joints supple, cod liver oil ect.I've got an old lurcher well shes 11 and a bit stiff in her back end until she has got going, she did have a stroke and lost all use of her back legs about 9 months ago.She has since made an almost total recovery but like i say is sometimes a bit stiff and wondered if there is anything i can give her,i've started giving her Vetzyme flexible joint tablets that contain Glucosamine,Chondroitin,MSM,and Omega 3 but only started yesterday so to early to see any improvement. apache
The cheaper option is human glucosamine tablets. Bit of cod liver oil may help. These things can take upto three months to have an effect so be patient. As things progress you many need some anti-inflammatory from the vets. It's important to keep the dogs weight under control and keep it fit. Regular exercise is better than sporadic long walks.

I used to give my old Springers 'Seraquin' (through the vets) which worked well.......I think you can buy it without prescription now? I wouldn't - it's just a dear form of glucosamine that's made palatable. Bog standard human tablets are fine

Bog standard human tablets are fine This does make sense if it's the same stuff, mine was all covered on insurance so would of been expensive as once they're on it you can't really stop being it's an ongoing treatment/ailment. Good luck
andrew flavell
One of the keepers on our shoot gives condroitin. Think it's spelt like that.... Worked wonders on his 8 yr old springer think it's placed in some expensive dog biscuits as a supplement.

Both my Cockers are now getting on a bit and suffer with stiff joints after hunting. The best thing I have found for them is Metacam. It is only available via your vet. Big tip!!!!! If you get a prescription from your vet, it is only a fraction of the cost to buy it on line e.g. my vet charged me £40 for a 100mlt bottle. I am now buying it online at £16 for the same 100mlt bottle. It is expensive, but it is very very good.

darren m
the vetzyme supplement as all the stuff you should need in it , depends on the quality i suppose. how much is it for the flexible joint tablets and how many per day do they say to give interested in this as one of my bitches is now 12 years old and stiffening up a fair bit , prefer natural supps if poss , as i know Rimadyl and metacam come with side effects with long use but they are anti inflam and pain killers not joint supplements
