Al Downie
Hi all, I've got a couple of very comfy but not very traditional-looking butt pads on my guns (both Parker Hale brown jobs with hollow criss-cross pattern on sides), and I'm thinking I'd like to change them for something a bit less obvious - black sorbothane perhaps. I'm guessing that the pads I buy won't fit exactly, and I'm going to have to trim them to fit my stocks. If any of you have done this, I'd be grateful for a tutorial - any tips gratefully received! I don't want to knacker my stocks.
poontang
Fairly straightforward process, just take a bit of time and you shouldn't have any problems. Plenty of 'how to' vids on YouTube.
Paddy Galore!
firstly, fix the heel plate to the stock, mark it, remove it, then a belt sander to take down the majority of the excess material, refit, then wrap electrical tape round the timber for protection, and carefully rub down by hand to the desired shape, use finer grit paper to get a nice smooth finish.
