Wookie
Right, I can't buy a shotgun without a licence right? But at the same time, I have to say what shotgun I will be using on the ticket, so what's the score with applying? I've got the forms for both shotgun and FAC but they are at work, so I was wondering if people can help me out with the best way to apply for it. Do I get the gunshop/person to put the gun aside for me, then apply and hope they grant it, then buy and put in a cabinet, or can I apply, get, buy something in a set "class" of gun (e.g. say I will be using a 12 bore, then buy a 12 bore with the ticket)? Cheers, Wookie
jim38curl
Not sure what would be best for you but this is the way i done it. Had a gun cabinet already installed for keeping the air rifle's in. Filled in the SGC form and put down for a 12g shotgun. Nice lady came round and looked at cabinet and made sure i wasn't a nutter. Week later SGC came in post, went and got gun. With regards to you getting a gun now, thats a no no. You just can't do it without a cert. I would wait until you are granted a cert before getting a gun set aside because it could be a long wait until it comes. I think if you don't already have a cabinet they would come around and talk to you, let you know if it would be worth getting the cabinet ( if they're happy with reference and you seem sane ). Then they'd have to arrange another visit to inspect the cabinet. Thats what i guess would happen anyway but as i had mine already in, it was just the one visit. Can't imagine that they would want you to go to the expense of buying the cabinet if there was a chance they could turn you down. Hope thats helped and not confused you more. Jim. Wookie
Right, I've got that bit sorted now. So all I do is say: Yes, I'd like a 12b on my ticket. Then go and buy a cabinet and wait for Mr. Policey to turn up and check I'm not a nutter. Sounds fair, but the nutter bit worries me... I think I'm sane, but you can never tell. I still need references though, yes? Wookie
Devilishdave
Shot gun application is easy as long as you are not a criminal or mentaly unstable. get an application on line or from your local plod get 4 pasport pics get 1 counter signatory who has to know who you are rather than be a JP copper lawyer etc. Ponts to note it is against the law to pay a person to be your counter signatory so thats most doctors out. All you have to do is state you intend to shoot clays (best to find out whare your local ground is) you must have a cabinet before the copper comes round and it must be securely bolted to the wall any of the police approoved boxes are best. get as large a cabinet as you can afford because if you are anything like me you will fill it up faster than you expect. you sign a disclaimer so the police can access your medical documents to check on your mental health. They run their own police check and will get the security services to run a check on you as well. All is not lost if you have been a bad boy or sufferd some sort of brek down or depression. if thats the case speek to FLO before applying so that you are not wasting your time. Once you have your licence you can buy as many shotguns as you like as long as you have the secure storage for them and inform the police each time you get a new one or sell one on Dave Edited January 3, 2006 by Devilishdave

Browning GTS
Just remember every one can own a shot gun, the police have to prove you can not. Keep it secure use it for clays or game. Enjoy your new sport. Act sensible. And most of all ENJOY
