njc110381
I have a bit of a problem. My .243 is really fussy about extracting cases. I'm using Hornady brass at the moment and the extractor drops them before they've even left the chamber! But then I tried a Remington case and it was much better. So, my problem is this. I'd really like to know which make of brass suits the rifle best before I spend a fortune on either ammo to reload or just plain brass. The extractor grooves in the cases are vastly different between the Hornady and Remington which surprised me. I thought they'd be standard?! I know there are a few .243 users here so would some of you please help me by posting me a fired case that you have going spare? It should only cost the price of a large stamp (about 50p I think?) and I would happily either pay the costs or donate a couple of quid to H4H for each case received. I have Remington and Hornady so I'm looking for Lapua, Norma, PPU and Winchester. Can anyone help me? I'd really appreciate it if you could. M4X
I have a similar problem with my Tikka 595 .222 !! So far I have found Sako brass to suit it best. It may be of interest to know what your make/model your rifle is?? In .243 I have Sako, Norma and PPU cases you can try PM sent
njc110381
Thankyou so much for the offers of help chaps. I really appreciate it. I only need one example of each case so no need to send multiples. It will only put the postage up and I just need the one to clip into the bolt to check fit. Last of all, does anyone have a Lapua case going spare? I'll get a PM sent to you all later, I'm off to work now! Thanks again. EDIT... The rifle is a CZ550. In .222 it would be a 527 if it's a CZ I think. Edited September 2, 2010 by njc110381
njc110381
Right chaps. So far I have; Federal - Quite good Hornady - Hopeless Lapua - The best so far NNY? (Just looked it up on the 'net and found out this is PPU) - Ok Norma - Hopeless PMC- Ok RWS - Ok Sako - Ok I was surprised at the Norma, but this does show that maybe for these purposes, quality of brass isn't the problem. A big thanks to M4X, who sent me all of the above apart from the two I already had. Someone must do a lot of shooting/zeroing! njc110381
Just found out that nny is actually PPU in English. For the sake of the price I may go with these over the Lapua because they work quite well.
DaveK
Just found out that nny is actually PPU in English. For the sake of the price I may go with these over the Lapua because they work quite well. And cheaper. I have both and find them pretty much the same.
