pegleg31
hard decission, but i've decided not to go shooting tomorrow on a 60/70 bird walk one stand one shoot.instead i'm going to travel one and a half hours to go picking up for free so i can put some extra training into my little cocker .apparently it's a 100+ bird day so hopefully i'll be able to handle him tomorrow and get him ready for the new year . still can't help but think if i've made the right decission? WGD
What is it you want to use him for mate? I love picking up, but it can make a good hunting spaniel as wild as a hawk. I can't help myself, but taking a dog picking up then back into the beating line is hard going, especially with a young dog. Hope you have a great day tomorrow. pegleg31
in the new year i should be trialling him.the bloke i train with reckons he'll be ready in the new year(hopefully). beating is no good, your trying to work a dog close and controlled but everyone else is letting their dog run a muck and you end up with no flushes.i'm not saying that their dog's are'nt well trained it's just alot different type of work. atleast with picking up i'll be able to use some handling work
WGD
How did it go? Did you manage to pick your retrieves and make it useful for you?
pegleg31
had a really good day. had to do some on the job training .some of the cover was heavy and i lost sight of him,and he was flushing bird's instead of picking them.but a quick shake and a good telling off sorted him out.all in all i was pleased handled him well when i could see him so i'm pleased with how the day went plus on a plus side hopefully i'll be getting a contact next time for some feral pigeons i did however manage to misplace the walkie talkie i'd been given.we had to wlk 3 fields off to find it
