Pest control or not, you shouldnt be out there hunting rabbits with traps or nets without having a means of quick despatch. A preist will do the job fine. Or for that matter, a short stubby stick will do the job fine. If your worried about bites, as said above, you should already have your tetanus jab (otherwise its free from local GP) and wear a pair of gloves to grab any infected rabbits, then incinerate or prepare as meat after. :thumbs:

I wouldnt recommend burying animals on a farm with animals, as they may be dug up again, and spread nasty bugs. Even if a fox digs it up and drags it round the feild..

Hi

Without wanting to sound too sarcastic and patronising .... why dont you just practise a lot more on targets until you can hit the kill zone (i.e. just behind the eyes) confidently at your chosen ranges?

I do not shoot at any rabbit that is beyond the distances I know that I can kill them at.

Yes I know, sometimes you don't always get a clean hit, but pick the animal up quickly and despatch it with a sharply broken neck. That is bound to be quicker than hunting for your second gun!

As for bites, well yes I sure that it can sometimes happen, not happened to me yet.

As for full of nasty diseases that we can catch ... what diseases? I have never heard of any rabbits carrying any zoonosis.

Karl

Fenns used effectively can get more rabbits than a airgunner can anyway the land i have to de-infest has livestock and a small perimeter. I think you can get tetnis from them, i dont want to risk it anyway

Hi BIB

Sorry about my first post. As this is an Airgunners forum I naturally assumed that you were talking about hunting with an air rifle!! :thumbs: Thats why I edited most of my original quote out as soon as I realised the true situation.

Seriously though, and this applies to us all, I believe that tetanus is present just about everywhere on land. I have not heard of it being a zoonosis, but maybe it is. However, I would presume that you are far more likely to contract tetanus from a rabbit if it scratches you with its claws because, if I remember correctly, tetanus is mainly found in the soil.

As for tetanus EVERYONE should ensure that they get their tetanus jabs updated regularly, and I think regularly nowadays means every 10 years. Tetanus, or lockjaw to give it its common name, is not a pleasant disease and I do believe that it can kill if not recognised in time. :P

Cheers

Doc Martin!! :lol::lol: :yp:
