triscrx
Well today I went to look again at the Beretta Ultralight I had set my mind on.. Well the fella serving me showed me the Perennia SV10 Mk III as a bit of a wildcard as I told him I liked the finish to the Ultralight with the engraving. http://www.sv10perennia.com/index.aspx?m=53&did=3067 Now I am completely lost as I love the SV10 and with the Kick off system and stunning engraving it is just stunning. I intend to keep it for 10Years + so I want to make the right decision. My budget was £1600 which the Perennia I just about made at £1550 approx depending where I looked. Now I have been offered the Mk III with the Kick off butt and case/chokes in 30'' with 2 boxes of Carts thrown in for £1950. Over budget but I can afford to stretch a little more to get a 'keeper' I don't want to buy a £1600 Shotgun and always wish had gone a little further for the better finish and engraving. Stripping the Mk III is great as well with a new Q-Stock system which seems very clever. Anyone have one here? Use will be rough shooting and the occasional 100 clay shoot. apache
I feel qualified to comment as we have an example of each in the cabinet, although the Ultralight is actually the gf's gun. I picked up a second hand Perennia III without the kick off system [looks quite ugly IMO] for £1200 and it's a fantastic gun, and I could have traded it in the next day for more money. The Perennia is heavier but only slightly. I have done 100 clays with it and felt no recoil, wouldn't like to do that with the Ultralight as it's not heavy enough to absorb the recoil IMHO. The Ultralight is a great gun and my gf does well shooting clays with 21g carts, and some walked up rough shooting taking a few shots for a lot of walking it would be a good gun for the job. The Perennia will do this, AND a round of 100 clays. It's more versatile if you can cope with a little extra weight when walking about I can't see there's a contest. I'd buy the Perennia every time. triscrx
Just to confirm it wasn't the kick-off system I was looking at it was a GelPad on the Mk III I looked at. They have a Secondhand Ultralight Deluxe for £995 in stock but its a bit beaten up. After a keeper for some years so the Perennia is No1 at the moment. BerettaSV10
I have the stable mate to the perennia the prevail and almost bought a perenniaa couple of weeks ago, a lovely handling gun. It was over my budget as well but the enjoyment of having the sister gun to the prevail would of been nice. The reasons I did not get the perennia were the one in stock was a 28" barrel and it was not the kick off version. These are down to personal preferance in that I prefer the 30" barrels and like the kick off system. If the one I looked at had 30" barrells it would probally be in my cab now. There is a perennia 28" barrel non kick off, for sale on the forum at the moment, not seen any photos of it and can't remember if its a mk1 or mk3. In the end I bought a silver pigeon 1 30" m/c which was in budget, but the main thing it fitted as well as the perennia job done. While the wood may not be as fancy as on the other guns it suits me as the colouring to me is a secondary matter.

Beautiful, reliable, accurate, pointable, fit me perfectly out of the box and is just awesome. Very light but the K/O system completely counters any issues that could potentially cause.. You're talking me into getting a perennia to go with the prevail, think you have summed the perennia up very well, like you would be the kick off version. I was seriously considering splashing out on a nice cammo semi to drag through fields on the pigeons but I just know it'll end up sitting in my cabinet doing nothing as I'll just want to use my SV10 all the time... Oh, forgot to mention... to the OP... my usage is exactly what you intend for yours.. Edited December 29, 2010 by Vipa
triscrx
After alot of ringing about it seems I will be picking one up in the morning For Ref the Trade price from Beretta to the dealer for one of these is £1595+VAT (£1874) then whatever markup the RFD makes. So £1950 seems to be a fair price I think. and I am getting 150 Cartridges with it so quite pleased. Going to have to save every penny for a few months to recover from the cost though
BerettaSV10
I think you have made the better choice in getting the perennia, as I think you would of soon got fed up with the ultra light delux on clay shooting, though must admit the colouring on some of the ultra light delux's is superb. At the end of the day the colouring of the gun is not the main priority, more important is to have the fit right and be able to handle the gun for all your needs. triscrx
Had its 1st clean last night guys and I cant seem to get the Extractors out On the other 68 Series Beretta's I have owned you just push them in approx 25% and rotate them 45 degrees and they come out. The Perennia has a sort of Dovetail shaped Extractor so rotation is not possible. Be a shame if they have been designed so that they are not removable for cleaning and a bit poor to be honest. Anyone here know if there is a knack to removing them? Edited January 3, 2011 by triscrx
